Behavioral Health Associate -Behavioral Health: Adult IP, Full time, Nights, 36 hrs /week
Job description
Shift: Full time , Nights, Every other weekend, 36 hrs/week
1. Continually monitors the environment by conducting unit rounds, safety rounds and contraband searches to ensure that the physical environment is safe, orderly and therapeutic. Ensures patient safety by providing one-to-one supervision of patients. Documents precaution records.
2. Facilitates didactic, educational, unit programs and community groups within assigned treatment programs as directed. Encourages patient participation and involvement in therapeutic activities. Monitors and documents patient progress communicating patient information to the RN, physicians and family members as appropriate.
3. Participates in assessment and treatment team meetings, reports and documents results of behaviors and intervention procedures and assists with planning for the continued progression of treatment for patients under the psychiatrist’s care.
4. Provides assistance to patients with activities of daily living under the direction of the RN including assisting with bathing and toileting of patients with those needs. Assists with specimen collection, taking vitals and EKG’s.
5. Performs various clerical and administrative assignments to support department operations.
6. Orients new patients and their families to the unit, program and physical environment. Provides appropriate patient information when accepting or receiving patients from other units.
7. Adheres to all Northwest Community Hospital standards, policies and procedures.
1. Bachelor’s degree in a behavioral health related field or a Bachelor’s degree in a non behavioral health related field and a minimum of 2 years experience working in a behavioral health environment required.
2. Current LCPC (License Clinical Professional Counselor) or LCSW (License Clinical Social Worker) licensure to practice in the state of Illinois or eligible preferred.
3. Prior experience teaching or assisting with activities of daily living, therapeutic limit setting and monitoring of patients and their environment.
4. Current CPR certification from American Heart Association.
5. CPI certification within 90 days of hire or transfer.
6. The interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively with patients and hospital personnel.
7. The analytical skills necessary to make appropriate patient assessments and observations.
8. The organizational skills necessary to implement multiple individual therapeutic plans simultaneously.
9. The written and verbal communication skills necessary to document patient progress and to communicate clinical progress and concerns.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Requires light physical effort. May require frequent periods of standing or walking. May require frequent lifting or moving of light weight material, occasional moving or lifting of average weight material or rarely lifting or moving of heavy weight material.
2. The flow of work and character of duties involves normal mental and visual attention much or all of the time.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Conditions are acceptable. At least one disagreeable element or hazard, i.e. potentially aggressive patients, may be present in the environment.
