SUMMARY : The Bookstore Manager plans, organizes, and carries out the smooth operation of
the bookstore.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manage Staff
- Enforces Copperfield's code of ethics and quality of customer service.
- Supervise and direct the work of employees and assistant manager.
- Hire and fire employees as appropriate.
- Recognizes and corrects performance issues honestly and directly.
- Handle Performance Appraisals, and raises for employees
- Train Staff in all aspects of job responsibilities
- Schedule Staff so as to meet customer needs and keep the daily operations within budget.
- Maintain a communications log keeping employees up-to-date on in-store events, discount sales and promotions.
- Approve Payroll twice a month.
- Maintains the overall cleanliness of the store.
- Consistently role models exceptional work habits/customer service for staff.
- Experience working in a union environment a plus.
Health and Safety
- Hold quarterly safety meetings, document the meeting and send to HR.
- Send monthly First Aid Log to HR
- Maintain a safe store environment for employees and customers.
Managing the Business
- Works with General Manager to strategize and develop plans to make the store profitable.
- Manages inventory levels.
- Ensure the accurate, completion, reconciliation of Point of sale transactions/bank
deposits.
- Working with the Marketing and Events Department, prepares and arranges for appropriate publicity and advertising.
- Input sales information daily.
- Balance and send daily reports, including charge slips coupons and other
pertinent receipts to Controller.
- Compile and reconcile end-of-month paperwork and submit to Controller’s office.
- Manage supplies (price labels, shipping materials, office supplies, etc.)
- Oversee use of company credit card with purchasing limits and guidelines: reconcile receipts with monthly statement.
Relationships, Customer Service and Presentation.
- Provide excellent customer service
- Greet customers and assist as needed, answer questions and phone calls promptly, follow up on requests and inter-store transfers, hand sell titles, provide book suggestions, clarify policies on returns and club cards.
- Consistently exceed expectations of our customers.
- Conduct online book searches
- Demonstrate pride and ownership of store by maintaining cleanliness, organization and attractiveness of store’s interior and exterior.
- Keep track of popular titles and new releases and stay abreast of available store stock.
- Shelve incoming books during high-volume intakes of new stock.
- Intercede on employees behalf to help resolve issues with difficult customers.
- Liaison with Headquarters, and other managers.
Professionalism
- Strive to be a knowledgeable and productive bookseller.
- Be efficient and accurate at handling money and operating point of sale terminals; know company policy for returns and exchanges.
- Be punctual and dependable about attendance.
- Complete assigned tasks and assist coworkers with tasks.
- Follow Employee handbook and use handbook as a resource for understanding performance expectations.
- Other duties may be assigned

- Book buying experience a plus
- Experience handling money and making change
- Comfortable with operating a computer
- Communication skills necessary to manage a diverse workforce and to assist customers.
- Dress and grooming appropriate for working with the public
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
A bachelor’s degree in business administration or a related field and three years experience in retail merchandising, fiscal management or business administration, including one year supervising or managing employees in a retail environment.
Language Skills: Strong Command of the English Language.

Pay: $25.00 - $27.00 per hour
