At Boxcar Coffee Roasters our mission is to Uplift Lives and we do this through kindness, delicious handcrafted coffee and espresso beverages and lovingly crafted pastries, an attention to detail and passion for creating an experience for our guests day in and day out. We are looking to add a Cafe Manager to our team at our VF Corporation cafe. The coffee bar within the VF building serves the employees of the building who work with North Face, Jansport, Altra and Smartwool to name a few. The coffee bar operates from 7:30am - 2:30pm and is closed on the weekends.

A barista at Boxcar is someone who is passionate about coffee and creating memorable guest experiences. You are responsible for the overall feel of the cafe through your positivity and attention to detail.

The Cafe Manager at Boxcar is someone who is detail oriented, organized and attentive to the needs of both the cafe and staff to create a world class hospitality experience for all.

Barista responsibilities include:

• Greet guests with a welcoming experience and determine their coffee interests and needs. Take customers orders accurately.
• Take the initiative to respond proactively to prevent service delays
• Prepares and sells coffee drinks by following recipes and preparation techniques for different coffee drinks.
• Able to work in a high volume, fast paced environment
• Operates coffee grinder, brewer and espresso machines; cleans machinery as needed.
• Maintains safe and healthy work environment by following organization standards and sanitation regulations.
• Maintaining and improving the appearance of store and coffee bar on a regular basis.
• Educating guests on our coffee and pastry offerings and provide insight on home brewing troubleshooting.

Cafe Manager responsibilities

• Demonstrate ownership and urgency by ensuring cleanliness and organization of the cafe space
• Preparing weekly work schedules for staff, maintaining proper staffing levels through all periods of the day based on need.
• Facilitate/schedule new staff training and coordinate with appropriate persons for training schedules. Maintain new and existing staff education to uphold the standards and culture of Boxcar
• Place and receive weekly orders while maintaining appropriate inventory and managing all receipts and invoices
• Develop an attentive, detail oriented staff that is focused on customer service (Ensure excellent customer service by acting as a role model for staff, customers and vendors)
• Plan, identify, communicate and delegate appropriate responsibilities and practices to staff to achieve operational goals
• Take ownership over staff development through assessing staff performance on a consistent and ongoing basis, coaching employees with both positive reinforcement and constructive feedback
• Work closely with Retail Director for hiring needs and to conduct punctual staff reviews
• Ensure adherence to Boxcar Coffee’s dress code, health and safety requirements, and other company policies
• Makes sure cafe is always full of energy and positivity through music, employee energy, quality of work
