Come make a difference in the life of child! The City of Wilton Manors is currently seeking applicants to work temporary summer camp positions.

This position is a temporary seasonal Recreation Leader I position authorized to work 28 hours per week. This temporary position will last no longer than six (6) months.

The purpose of the position is to organize, supervise, and lead student recreation activities and/or athletics programs. Employees in this classification perform at entry staff level and are responsible for providing a safe recreational environment for the assigned community programs, youth activities, and/or special events provided by the City. Employee works with independence and initiative within established policies and procedures. Performs other duties as dictated by the nature of the program.

In the event a change is necessary to update the essential functions of the job, the City will provide as much notice as practicable to the employee.

  • Supervises assigned facilities and ensures the safety and cleanliness of recreational equipment and teaching materials are maintained.
  • Confirms child attendance in after-school programs; releases children to parents from programs; e.g., after-school, summer, spring, and winter programs.
  • Plans, organizes, and supervises various student activities, programs, and special events.
  • Distributes snacks to children in various programs.
  • Supervises children on playground, recreational facilities, and in classroom/study activities.
  • Assists children with schoolwork and various activities.
  • Organizes and supervises various arts and crafts projects.
  • Performs light custodial duties; e.g., maintains recreation equipment, maintains cleanliness of facilities, performs set up and break down duties for activities and special events.
  • Reports any repair or maintenance issues to the appropriate management; e.g. leaks, damaged equipment or facilities, dangerous hazards.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Typical Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; supplemented by six (6) to twelve (12) months previous child care experience within a similar recreational or educational environment; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

  • Part-time employees will earn vacation leave based on the number of hours worked.
  • At resignation/retirement/termination part-time employees will be paid for vacation hours earned after returning all City property.

Sick Leave
  • Part-time employees will earn sick leave based on the number of hours worked.
  • At resignation/retirement/termination:
  • after 10 years employment, 25% of total hours up to 480 hours

Holidays
5 hours of paid holiday for the day after Thanksgiving

COLA or Wage Adjustment
Commission-approved at budget

Uniforms
Provided by City when required

Pension
  • The City of Wilton Manors is a member of the Florida Retirement System (FRS) for all new hires.

Salary
Merit increases of 1% to 3% annually based on performance evaluation (increase is subject to percentages set by Commission during the annual budget ).

Fitness Center
Use of City’s fitness center after completing all required documentation.
