The Veterans’ Home in Chelsea is seeking qualified candidates for the role of Campus Police Officer I
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (These are a general summary and not all inclusive):
Conduct foot patrols and or vehicle patrol of 11 buildings and surrounding grounds.
conduct surveillance of the property both inside and out
search for missing goods and missing persons and investigate reports of suspicious activity
Guard against trespass theft or damage to property or injury to individuals screen visitors conduct inspections mediate disputes control crowds and provide personal protection to individuals as required
Notify designated personnel of emergencies, write reports and maintain electronic logs and records
Assist in the safe and swift evacuation of residents
Create work orders via the agencies automated work order system
Investigate suspicious activities by interviewing witnesses and victims; preserve crime scenes and fire sites for examination by experts
Enforce campus traffic and safety regulations by directing traffic assisting operators of disabled motor vehicles in assist pedestrians in crossing streets
Participate in snowmobile activities by opening and closing parking lots request movement of vehicles
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Capability to establish rapport with others and persons from different ethnic, cultural and or economic backgrounds
Be able to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with others
Know how to deal tactfully with others
Ability to interact with people who are under physical and/or emotional stress
Understand how to verbally deescalate a situation
Knowledge of the principles and correct usage of the English language including grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Ability to give oral instructions in a precise, understandable manner and prepare general reports.
Being able to make decisions and act quickly in dangerous or emergency situations.
Ability to stand and/or walk for prolonged periods of time.
Ability to establish rapport with others and persons from different ethnic, cultural, and/or economic backgrounds.
EMERGENCY
This position has been deemed as an emergency personnel position. During a declared State of Emergency and in Non-Emergency situations/adverse weather, it will be necessary to report to work.

The Veterans’ Home in Chelsea is a multidimensional health care and housing facility first established in 1882. Our mission is to serve eligible Massachusetts veterans with dignity, honor and respect by providing long-term and skilled nursing care in our long-term care facility and delivering comprehensive housing services in our domiciliary facility. Special Requirements: Possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Class D Motor Vehicle Operator's License.
Appointee must be eligible for appointment as a special police officer under Chapter 22C, Section 60 (DPH) and Section 59 (DMH & DMR) of the Massachusetts General Laws.
