* CDI Specialist wtih an active RN license, preferred, and must be proficient in APR DRGs and PCS coding.
Position Summary
The CDI Specialist improves clinical documentation through interaction with physicians, nursing staff, care givers, case managers, and HIM Coding staff to ensure that appropriate reimbursement is received for the level of service provided to patients and that the clinical information used in profiling and reporting outcomes is complete and accurate.
Experience:
- Required: 3-5 years of CDI experience
- Proficient in APR DRGs and PCS coding.
- Required: 3-5 years of PCS coding experience
Required Skills:
- Working knowledge of MS and APR DRG groupers
- Familiarity with financial impact analysis
- Familiarity with quality initiatives (PSI, etc.)
- Overall knowledge of the flow of the revenue cycle
- Effective written and verbal communication skills with staff at all levels of the organization
- Motivate and maintain effective working relationships with staff and all stakeholders.
- Capacity to work independently in a remote office setting
- Recognize opportunities for documentation improvement
- Working knowledge of electronic medical records systems (EPIC, 3M 360), and Nuance Clintegrity Allscripts / SCM
- Computer literate with office-based systems (Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint)
Preferred Certifications:
- RN
- Certified Documentation Improvement Practitioner (CDIP) or Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist (CCDS)
- RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CPC
Position Responsibilities:
- Act as CDI subject matter expert responsible for the day-to-day evaluation of documentation by the medical staff and healthcare team in accordance with the hospital's designated clinical documentation system;
- Concurrent review of documentation for all assigned patients
- Coordinate with HIM Coding staff retrospective queries
- Formulate clinically compliant, credible queries
- Analyzes clinical documentation of Diagnosis Related Group (DRG) to ensure accuracy in coding of inpatient medical conditions
- Communicates with physicians, case managers, coders, and other healthcare team members to facilitate comprehensive medical records documentation to reflect clinical treatment, decisions, and diagnoses for inpatients
- Collects and analyzes information pertinent to the documentation process, findings and outcomes in compliance with Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) regulatory guidelines
- Perform DRG reconciliation between CDI and HIM DRGs, Make appropriate modifications to DRG as necessary
- Perform other tasks as needed.
