The Chief Operations Officer (COO) of Practice Operations is a senior leader at Morehouse School of Medicine and Morehouse Healthcare responsible for leading all financial, department operations patient financial services, healthcare operations and the business-related verticals that support Morehouse Healthcare. This position has responsibility for the strategic direction and operational oversight of the MHC medical group practices. This role reports to the Chief Medical Officer of Morehouse Healthcare.
A successful candidate will have demonstrated and proven ability to build top-performing operations and turn around under-performing departments by reducing “days in A/R,” improving collections performance, and training / leading professional, highly productive teams. Proficient in EPIC, HBOC Star, Syntellect, Showcase, CTVision, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and SQL.
The position is responsible for standardizing operational processes and policies across the ambulatory clinics in support of the mission and vision of Morehouse School of Medicine and Morehouse Healthcare. The emphasis is on the achievement of the ideal patient encounter, including efficient and effective high value care throughout MHC practices. The COO works closely with the MHC Senior Leadership team, providers and MSM executives in meeting the strategic, operational and financial goals of Morehouse Healthcare/Morehouse School of Medicine.
Strategic and operational goals include improving financial and operating performance in each practice, improving access, supporting clinical delivery optimization efforts, implementing clinical workflows and processes in support of the organizations electronic health record (EPIC) and supporting core strategies that advance the transition to population health. The position will assure best-in-class performance and results, maximize cash collections, facilitate continuous improvement, and foster patient, employee, physician and business-partner engagement.
As a senior practice executive, this individual will interact regularly with Grady Hospital executives and other outside organizations. The executive will need to embrace the importance of system collaboration and work effectively with hospital Presidents, Department Chairs, colleagues and senior management to achieve clinic goals.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Requires a Bachelors Degree in Business, Accounting, Health Administration or a related field. Degree must be from a regionally accredited college or university.
Experience: Requires at least ten years of progressive heath care leadership experience at the Director’s level or above, with experience in leading a multi-specialty physician practice or a large physician practice ( > 40 providers). Demonstrated experience in community physician and / or academic medical center environments and has experience in value-based care initiatives.
Preferred Qualifications
Education: The ideal candidate will have a Masters of Health Care Administration, Health Care Management, Business Administration or a related field. Degree must be from a regionally accredited college or university.
Experience: The ideal candidate has served as a COO or equivalent role at a hospital or large multispecialty physician practice and will have experience with multiple community physician practices and/or a multi-specialty academic medical practice.
Experience in Health Care Services or Biomedical Sciences with one of the major consulting firms (EY, Deloitte, etc.)
