Position Overview

Primary Function: Assist in supervising day to day activities of up to 40 children ages 6 weeks to 5 years at the University’s childcare center including assisting with and leading educational & recreational activities/programs, serving meals & snacks and supervising rest periods.

Position Description

Typical Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Assist in leading/supervising childcare program activities including educational, recreational, arts & crafts, and special events.
  • Participate in games. Teach activities such as simple drawing, painting, songs, etc.
  • Maintain order & discipline. Direct children in eating, resting and toileting.
  • Serve meals & refreshments.
  • Perform routine housekeeping: sweep floors, wash dishes, wash crib linens, blankets, towels, etc.

Attributes of a Successful Candidate

Education: High School diploma or equivalent

Experience: 6 months - 1 year of related experience

Licenses & Certifications: 8 hours workshops/seminars annually required by State (may be obtained within the first year of employment).
CPR certification.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time,
  • Must be able to walk for extended periods of time,
  • Must be able to crawl and or kneel,
  • Must be able to push and/or pull objects,
  • Must be able to use feet for repetitive tasks,
  • Must be able to use hands for repetitive tasks,
  • Must be able to lift between 21-50 pounds (Medium work),
  • Must be able to carry between 21-50 pounds (Medium work)
