Job description

About us

Jolma Design provides expert services for residential and commercial site development. Our team specializes in a wide range of services, including residential stormwater plans, site design, geotechnical engineering, and more.

Our work environment includes:

  • Modern office setting
  • Growth opportunities

Jolma Design, LLC is a small but growing land use planning and civil engineering firm currently seeking a full-time Civil Engineer to help serve our rapidly growing and varied project portfolio.

Objective:

  • Help further Jolma Design’s mission to provide innovative ideas and strategic solutions.
  • Manage multiple project budgets, schedules, and deliverables.
  • Work effectively with staff, clients, consultants, and governing agencies.
  • Prepare permitting and construction drawings, details, and specifications.
  • Participate in our continuous improvement process by sharing ideas.

Required Qualities:

  • Trustworthy. Ethical with a high level of integrity.
  • Collaborator. Willing mentor, good team player, and professional colleague.
  • Curious. Curiosity is the beginning of all great ideas, and we have a culture wherein ideas—no matter how small or big and audacious—are welcomed and considered. We are always looking for new opportunities and ways to improve, and it starts with free sharing of thoughts and ideas.
  • Humble. Arrogant candidates need not apply.
  • Proactive. As a small company with a relatively flat structure, it is vital that everyone be a self-starter.
  • Self-disciplined. We do not micromanage—everyone is responsible and accountable for their own work.
  • Responsive. We are stewards of our clients’ time and money, and pride ourselves on our customer service.
  • Well-rounded. A life outside of work. We embrace the concept of a work/life balance, with one important difference: the two should not “balance”; the scale should be heavily tilted toward LIFE! If you have children, do not miss school concerts, plays, or just days off to spend time with them. Take a random, sunny day off for a trip to the dog park. A foot of fresh powder on Mt. Hood? Forget work, grab your snowboard. Of course, work is important, but the best co-workers prioritize life over work.

Ideal Qualities and Experience:

  • Licensed as a Professional Engineer (PE) in Oregon and/or Washington, or able to obtain licensure as a PE within two years.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering (no worries, we embrace ALL disciplines, even non-engineers) from an ABET-accredited university.
  • 2 to 5 years of relevant work experience.
  • Proficient with general computer tasks and the Microsoft suite of products (primarily Word, Excel, and Windows).
  • Proficient with AutoCAD Civil 3D. Extra points for Revit and/or ArcGIS experience.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Good critical-thinking and problem-solving skills. These rather cliché qualities are extremely important on our projects, where unexpected issues and field-changes often occur.
  • Remember, these are IDEAL, not REQUIRED qualities/experience. We invite all interested candidates to apply, especially those with the “Required Qualities” outlined in the section above.

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without employer sponsorship. Only qualified candidates will be contacted; resumes may be kept on file for future employment consideration.

If you believe we would be a good fit for you and are interested in applying for this position, please submit your resume and cover letter.

Principals only. Recruiters, please do not contact this job poster.

Do NOT contact us with unsolicited services or offers.
