Communications Policy Analyst to perform support services, such as analysis of public health programs and policies, planning, written responses to inquiries, and effective summarizing of public health interventions and outcomes, as well as CDC’s investments, for CDC leadership, policy-oriented audiences, and partners.

Responsibilities:
- Respond to requests for information and analysis regarding DOP programs, investments, and issue areas that may originate from a variety of sources (e.g. Congress, the Office of Management and Budget, HHS, other agencies, the CDC Office of the Director, and others) and are transmitted to DOP principally (but not exclusively) through the NCIPC Office of the Director. Also respond to requests for information and analysis regarding DOP’s programs, investments, and issue areas from the DOP Director, partners, CDC stakeholders, and the public. Gather information in consultation with DOP program and technical experts, provided needed analysis, and write succinct responses that provide requested information and analysis.
- Support the DOP Office of Policy, Planning, and Partnerships by serving as lead analyst for designated planning, policy, and partnership functions. Also, serve a lead analyst in working with specific and designated branches and programs within DOP. Attend branch and program meetings in order to stay informed regarding programs, investments, outcomes, and issue areas. Manage requests for information and analysis for designated branches and programs, and designated functions.
- Collaborate with scientific, program, and communications subject matter experts within the Division in working toward programmatic goals. This includes carrying out specific programmatic projects as designated by the Associate Director for Policy, Planning, and Partnerships and the Policy Team Lead in support of DOP’s mission and current goals.
- Support the Associate Director for Policy, Planning, and Partnerships, Division Director, and Policy Team Lead by preparing information for and participating in partner briefings and meetings by phone and in-person, and providing logistical support (such as scheduling, notetaking, and follow-up activities.)
- Support the DOP Office of Policy, Planning, and Partnerships by developing and producing written information for policy-oriented audiences, including briefing documents, talking points, and other materials for use in meetings, updates for CDC and HHS leadership, Congressional briefings, and presentations.
- The Contractor shall actively participate in weekly team meetings and team retreats and shall provide information about their current activities and contribute to discussion of strategies for addressing DOP’s priority health issues through public health strategies, and the team’s overall approach.
- The Contractor shall attend national conferences and program meetings for issue areas of responsibility to stay current with the latest information regarding health problems and public health strategies and interventions. The Contractor shall provide support to CDC staff and Division leadership such as assisting with presentations, talking points, note-taking, conference booth management, and other tasks as part of CDC staff participation in national conferences and program meetings. The Contractor shall provide logistical support, notetaking, organization, and other aspects of effective delivery of CDC-supported sessions during national conferences and program meetings.
- Execute services with high quality and under pressing time constraints and meet all deadlines as outlined by the requestor.
- Regularly report status on work tasks via weekly or bi-weekly check-in meeting with the Policy and Partnerships Team Lead (other their designee).
- The contractor shall make approximately three domestic trips during the Base Period and each Option Period to keep abreast of partner developments and fully support the logistics and coordination of partner meetings that do not occur in Atlanta, GA. However, due to COVID-19 restrictions proposed travel is subject to change.
- Response Support Activities. If needed, provide services to rapidly respond, participating in CDC's emergency response activities to public health threats in the United States and abroad. Support includes engaging in agency-wide emergency response activities related to the work outlined in the PWS; directly supporting the mission to reduce opioid or other related harms and save lives; and providing resources to state and local public health departments (recipients).
- Completed Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
- Strong writing skills and experience synthesizing information into short written documents
- Prior experience in program or policy analysis
- Prior work in Injury Prevention is preferred
- Knowledge of public health preferred
- Excellent oral and written communication skills are required
- Advanced communications and professional work skills
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team, and interact collaboratively across teams, programs, branches, divisions, and center
- Ability to work in a diverse, flexible, deadline driven, government environment
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Preferred 2 years’ experience in health policy
