The Workforce Development Division (WDD) at the Department of Workforce Services (DWS) is looking for a skilled and motivated Veteran to fill a Consolidated Veteran Services Representative (CVSR) position. The individual in this position will split their time working as a Disabled Veterans' Outreach Program (DVOP) Employment Counselor as well as a Local Veterans' Employer Representative (LVER). This position will work primarily in the Salt Lake County Area.
**Federal program requirements mandate this position be filled by a Veteran.**
Representatives in this position deliver a broad range of services to assist Veterans, employment partners and employers to help our veterans be competitive in our states labor market. Services will typically include:
- Providing outreach and offering job development and training opportunities to Veterans by promoting community and employer support for employment and training opportunities, including apprenticeship and on-the-job training.
- Collaborating and partnering with our department's Workforce Development Specialists while conducting outreach to employers to assist veterans in gaining employment, including conducting seminars for employers and, in conjunction with employers conducting job search workshops and establishing job search groups.
- Facilitating employment training, and placement services available to a veteran under our department's employment service delivery system.
- Coordinating resources with partners; communicating and promoting agency and partner programs and services to encourage maximum utilization of available employer hiring incentives.
- Planning and participating in job and career fairs.
- Promoting credentialing and licensing opportunities for veterans.
- Conducting eligible veteran customer assessments and developing an action plan that is documented.
- Determining needs and educating customers about DWS programs, policies, and services.
- Helping Utah Veterans overcome barriers to employment with effective case management and providing individualized career services; job search techniques, resume writing, work readiness and interviewing skills.
- Identifying and translating skills and training obtained through military service to civilian careers.
- Assisting Utah Veterans in attaining certificates and licenses using their military training and experience or by assisting with short-term training.
- Assisting customers with resume creation, networking, mock interviewing and job searching with technology.
The ideal candidate for this position is someone who:
- Is a Veteran; a copy of your DD-214 must be uploaded to this application to be considered. This document must include your character of service/discharge.
- Has working knowledge of the various branches of the US Armed Forces, located within the state of Utah, to include their Active, Guard and Reserve components.
- Has the ability to provide family focused career counseling and proactively engage and motivate customers.
- Has knowledge of DWS programs.
- Has knowledge of agency programs, community resources and services, local labor market, and job search techniques.
- Has experience working with veterans overcoming barriers to employment.
- Has exceptional interpersonal and customer service skills and ability to assist people in a manner which shows sensitivity, tact, and professionalism, without prejudice or bias.
- Can work independently with efficiency and great effectiveness.
- Is willing to attend and successfully complete federal and state departmental training expectations for each part of the Local Veteran Employment Representative (LVER) and the Disabled Veteran Outreach Program (DVOP) roles.
