CONSTRUCTION ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT – SANTA BARBARA, CA
The Towbes Group, Inc., headquartered in Santa Barbara, California, is an award winning, fully integrated property management, development, and construction services firm with more than 60 years of experience on the central coast. We are looking for a full-time experienced Assistant Superintendent that will be responsible for assisting with day-to-day construction projects in Santa Barbara.
JOB SUMMARY:
Assists the Construction Superintendent with management of the on-site construction activities of the company, including directing, coordinating, and scheduling the work of employees, subcontractors, material suppliers, engineers, architects, vendors, and others.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High School diploma or equivalent work experience on a job site. 4-6 years of construction trade experience or any combination of training, education and experience, which would provide the required knowledge and abilities.
Must have a valid California Driver’s License. Must be able to read and interpret construction plans and specifications. Ability to perform and assist with the construction duties listed above.
Will be required to lift, push, pull, or otherwise move up to 50 pounds of materials, equipment or supplies. Will be exposed to occasional loud noises. Must be able to walk, climb, or otherwise safely navigate around worksites exposed to moving objects, noise, the elements, uneven terrain, and some hazardous conditions.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:
- Under the direction of the Construction Superintendent, plans, schedules, assigns and supervises the work of skilled, semi-skilled, and unskilled company construction workers.
- Ensures that construction is completed according to the plans and specifications.
- Schedules the work of subcontractors.
- Compiles and submits to the superintendent, production reports, change orders, and other required records.
- Establishes and enforces safety measures. Organizes and conducts safety training sessions and submits documentation on the meetings to the company’s Safety Officer.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and workspace to ensure they are organized and in proper working order, request replacements as necessary.
- Must be able to interpret building plans and specifications and must be able to compile information and make recommendations to the superintendent for workarounds.
- Follows established construction methods & procedures; refers exceptions to the superintendent.
- Converses with vendors, subcontractors, architects, engineers, and governmental agencies.
- Demonstrated intermediate knowledge of construction techniques using hand tools and power tools encompassing plumbing, electrical, HVAC, finish carpentry, touch up painting, light drywall repair.
- Perform finish construction work and/or delegate to others.
- Responsible for managing your schedule and prioritizing job-site tasks, as well as directing others to complete work in a timely, efficient, and cost-effective way.
- Reports progress to the superintendent as often as necessary. May at times be expected to utilize discretionary decision-making and technical knowledge to carry out duties with a minimum of guidance and supervision.

Hourly Pay Rate Range: $33.27 - $49.90
