DuPont Water & Protection is seeking a Control Equipment Technician to join our Spruance site in Richmond, VA! The Spruance Plant is home to 5 businesses: Kevlar®, Mylar®, Nomex®, Tyvek® & and Zytel® and is currently DuPont's largest manufacturing site. Water & Protection is a leading provider of engineered products and integrated systems for the construction, worker safety, energy, oil & gas, transportation, water purification and medical markets.
OVERALL FUNCTION: Repair and maintain electrical/instrumentation systems, process control, and analytical measurement equipment within DuPont’s specification using hand tools, power tools and precision measuring and testing equipment. Improve reliability/ uptime of asset through participation in improving asset performance and maintenance strategy. Complete necessary training prior to performing any major duty.

MAJOR DUTIES:
Conform to plant safety and environmental requirements, accepting responsibility for personal safety.
Carry out emergency procedures as necessary.
Perform housekeeping in the work area to maintain site safety standards.
Perform safety hazard assessments prior to initiating work to insure elimination of hazards.
Perform work as outlined in overall function.
Purchase required tools. A tool list will be provided
Follow bargained Tag, Lock, Clear and Try (TLCT) procedure on equipment to assure it is inoperable and safe to work on.
Participate in maintenance reliability programs and processes.
Participate in development of maintenance work schedule outlook, including all upcoming major equipment shutdown and overhauls.
- Install and maintain electrical distribution centers.
- Test energized systems.
- Fabricate and install electrical conduit systems.
- Calibrate, install and maintain electrical/electronic equipment, pneumatic process control and related systems
- Operate Power Services distribution systems.
- Operate site H&V systems.
- Field sketch and interpret drawings, electronic prints and repair procedures
- Maintain electrical machine control and process systems
- Maintain on-line and off-line analytical measurement equipment
- Contributes to the design, implementation, and programming of control systems for equipment upgrades and new installations
- Demonstrate ability to:
- Work on sophisticated electronic equipment, or it must be expected that the individual has the capability to work on high-tech equipment
- Analyze systems and processes and make necessary corrections.
- Apply his/her capabilities to solve problems.
- Write and maintain control of systems software. This includes but is not limited to PLC’s, DCS’s and drives.
Communicate with other employees using hand-held radios, telephones, and computers.
Technicians must have a general knowledge of the process area to which they are assigned, its procedures, and hazards.
Perform other work-related duties as assigned.
- Utilize computer and administrative skills for feedback to various maintenance systems utilizing current CMMS, or as directed by management.
Assist other Control Equipment Technicians as needed to complete tasks
Ability to use all equipment in maintenance shop such as power tools, benders, test benches, etc.
Participate in continued training as required by management to upgrade/ refresh current maintenance and craft skills.
- Maintain a minimum average academic score of 75 percentile on all tests unless noted otherwise.
Record history, review/ upgrade maintenance strategies for assets
Ability to work in a team environment.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such, as respirators, must be worn when necessary as dictated by the duties one is assigned. Assignments may present exposure to the elements of weather, heat, cold, rain, humidity, dust, fumes, oil, grease, dirt, chemicals, gases, noise, vibration and hazardous materials. Duties may include working in close quarters; above, on or below ground level; indoors and outdoors.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Duties include frequent lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds, standing, walking, sitting, grasping tools and equipment, reaching with hands and arms, climbing ladders, stooping, kneeling, crouching, bending and balancing.
The following qualifications are required:
High School Diploma or GED
2 or more years of industrial maintenance experience in electrical and instrument maintenance or Equivalent (maintenance) Military experience.
Control Equipment/electrical technician apprenticeship card or Licensed electrician.
