Georgia-Pacific Continuous Manufacturing Group is looking for a Converting Engineer to support our paper mill operations across North America. This individual is primarily responsible for solving the complicated problems seen in the paper product converting industry to enable manufacturing partners to become competitive in the industry. This role can be filled remotely, but will travel up to 75% of the time supporting facility operations.

Our Team


This position resides in our Converting Center of Excellence team which is part of the corporate manufacturing advancement group. This group works closely with operations across GP’s North American facilities, collaborate with multiple groups and disciplines to improve asset performance and reliability.

What You Will Do

  • Support projects through the check-out, start-up, commissioning, operational handoff and troubleshooting of converting assets.

  • Support commercialization and product portfolio rollouts as a key technical support resource
  • Build a technical solutions capability through a network of internal and external partners (technical SME, engineering, operations, vendor/OEM)
  • Identify gaps in current technologies & processes and provide solutions to improve efficiencies going forward.
  • Coach and mentor operations building internal technical skills, capabilities and efficiencies while improving performance metrics and sustainability of assets.
  • Scale improvements through knowledge sharing across assets/platform to fully leverage innovation and process improvements.
  • Interact with and learn platform equipment technologies and applying that knowledge and support across the business.

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

  • Experience leading and mentoring others in converting, packaging, or similar industrial operation.

  • Knowledge and expertise of design, construction, operations, and maintenance of converting equipment (or related automated equipment) obtained through role in process/manufacturing engineering, reliability, or maintenance
  • Ability to read schematics/engineered drawings to troubleshoot pneumatics, hydraulics and PLCs
  • Willing and able to travel up to 75% of the time – may include weekend travel and flexible work hours supporting project demands.

What Will Put You Ahead

  • Experience troubleshooting a variety of PLCs

  • Experience with Fanuc / ABB robots.


For this role, we anticipate paying $115k - $145k per year. This role is eligible for variable pay, issued as a monetary bonus or in another form.
