SUMMARY:

The cook is responsible for preparing meals developed by a certified dietician for clients and visitors. This is an hourly position with hours and schedule established by the supervisor to meet the agency needs. This position is “non-exempt” as defined by U.S. Department of Labor’s wage and hour regulations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Assists in organizing and maintaining a clean kitchen in accordance with appropriate health and safety codes.

2. Assists in preparing and serving meals, two (2) times per day, seven (7) days per week.

3. Assists in the preparation of food purchasing orders based on menu planning as directed by the supervisor.

4. Performs other duties as deemed appropriate by supervisor.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Basic cooking skills.
• Meet all health requirements.
• Physical capability of walking up and down stairs.
• Ability to reach over-head to perform duties.

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:

1. Must demonstrate the ability to prepare meals in a timely manner

2. Must be able to follow meal plans as directed.

3. Must adhere to safety and sanitary standards.

4. Must demonstrate the ability to complete accurate, timely and appropriate documentation.

5. Must demonstrate the ability to effectively function as a Lafayette House team member.

• Must demonstrate the ability to relate with empathy and sensitivity to staff, clients, and the community.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS:

1. Completed Family Care and Safety Registry indicating employee is not a threat to the health, safety or welfare of clients and pass Department of Mental Health employment eligibility review.

2. Completed Medical Examination Report indicating employee is in good physical and emotional health.

3. Complete Serve Safe classes as provided by Missouri Health Department.

4. May require a valid Missouri driver’s license or an equivalent permit/license.

OTHER CERTIFICATIONS:

• May require proof of auto insurance.
• CPR/First Aid certification.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Physical demands described are representative of those that must be routinely met by an employee to successfully perform the essential duties of this position. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential duties.

· Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

· Ability to perform job responsibilities in a facility with multiple levels and without elevator or mechanical transportation.
