Job description
The Food Service Technician prepares nutritious meals for Head Start/Early Head Start children, staff, and parents while maintaining a clean, sanitary kitchen. The Food Service Technician may serve as bus monitor or bus driver or assist within classrooms.
SPECIFIC DUTIES OF THE JOB:
1. Prepares two meals each day (breakfast and lunch) for the assigned classrooms in accordance with menus, adjusting meals and snacks to accommodate any and all allergies noted.
2. Prepares a nutritious snack daily for full day, full year classrooms, if present in center.
3. Review menus to determine the types and quantities of food to be prepared and makes all necessary purchases.
4. Ensures all kitchen paperwork and record keeping is completed accurately and in a timely manner.
5. Assist in purchasing, ordering, receiving food items and dietary supplies.
6. Properly store products, stocking them in appropriate location and keep inventory of items purchased.
7. Ensure proper documentation of food, freezer, and refrigerator temperatures.
8. Ensures cleanliness and sanitization of kitchen area/cooking surfaces, etc. in accordance with Health Department Regulations.
9. Notifies the Health and Nutrition Coordinator of all children requiring a Special Diet.
10. Maintains an on-going food inventory.
11. Cleans all areas where food is stored or prepared.
12. Conducts food and nutrition demonstrations for staff, parents, and children.
13. Works with classroom staff on nutrition activities.
14. Collects data and prepares reports for various Head Start and Early Head Start staff members including the Health Specialist, Nutrition Coordinator, Area Manager, Data Entry, and others as requested.
15. Reviews and monitors data for completeness and accuracy.
16. Eats meals with the children, when requested.
17. Assist in all cleaning duties in the center as requested or required.
18. Assist with parent meetings or trainings.
19. Ensure bus pre and post trip inspections are in compliance with State and Federal requirements. Ensure all bus passengers are restrained with appropriate safety systems.
20. Ensure daily paperwork, maintenances repairs, and records are maintained in an organized, accurate and up to date manner.
21. Assist with classroom activities and coverage as needed.
22. Recruit children for the Head Start and Early Head Start Programs.
23. Attend and participate in meetings, work groups, team meetings, committees, workshops, individual training and training conferences as assigned, which may include local, state, regional and national groups. This includes attending pre-service and in-service training.
24. Work to obtain volunteer and in-kind contributions for the Agency. Submit necessary documents as requested.
25. Works in the Head Start or Early Head Start classroom as requested by Supervisor.
26. Comply with all Head Start Performance Standards, Mid-Cumberland Community Action Agency and Mid-Cumberland Head Start Policies and Procedures, and other applicable Early Childhood Standards such as DHS Licensing Standards and NAEYC Accreditation Standards.
27. Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Minimum of a high school diploma or GED; prefer candidate with a Safe Serve certification
Experience: Previous work food service, especially in a childcare environment.
