JOB SUMMARY:
Provide pickup and delivery service among the district buildings and assist with warehouse operations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Knowledge of: methods, materials and equipment used in packaging and shipping. Ability to: follow a detailed delivery schedule; follow oral and written instructions; perform physical tasks including the lifting of heavy objects on a regular basis; safely operate a forklift and various types of pallet jacks; and properly load and unload trucks. Flexible and willing to do a variety of jobs to meet deadlines and complete all required training. Ability to communicate with Spanish speaking students and adults preferred.
Experience: Must have at least one (1) year of delivery driving experience.
Education: High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
Certification Required: Medic First Aid Card. A valid Oregon Driver's license and good driving record. High lift and forklift certification.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Deliver messages, documents, packages, and other items from building to building.
- Transport materials as required from supplier to schools.
- Verify load against shipping papers.
- Transport supplies and other material between buildings within the school district including such things as towels, books, and mail.
- Recommend necessary repairs needed for equipment.
- Load and unload truck.
- Transport bank deposits from schools to bank.
- Perform general maintenance duties as assigned during the summer.
- Drive forklift for loading and unloading of trucks.
- Assist with surplus property and the sale of surplus property.
- Track inventory and deliver food commodities from freezer and dry storage at the Physical Plant.
- Drop off mail at USPS.
- Occasionally travel outside of the District for pickups (e.g. Portland or Salem).
- Cultivate and model a respectful working and learning environment.
- Ability to effectively work and communicate with students, parents, and school personnel from diverse cultures or backgrounds in English, Spanish, or other languages related to the job.
- Ability to work harmoniously with others.
- Perform other duties as assigned
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Language Skills: Ability to read English and comprehend complex technical language. Ability to write memos and correspondence in English. Ability to effectively present information in one-to-one small group situations.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations with a high degree of accuracy.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense to carry out detailed, but basic, written or oral instructions in English. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to work collaboratively and establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, supervisor(s), staff, students, parents and community.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk and may be continuously required to stand. The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk while performing the duties of this job. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee continuously uses hand strength to grasp tools. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee may be required to sit at a desk and use a computer for long periods of time. The employee must be able to safely drive a large delivery truck on a regular basis.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
Works in a school environment. Primarily works outside in a wide variety of weather conditions. Work requires walking and working on uneven ground over surfaces that are sometimes slippery. Work may require the use of ladders, a wide variety of machinery and equipment as well as various chemicals. Able to use a telephone, operate a computer, and use other office equipment. Able to drive to other program sites and meetings.
CLASSIFICATION/LOCATION:
Classified, Regular, Full-Time Position, District-Wide
CALENDAR/BENEFITS:
8 hours per day for 12 months per year (260 days), starting ASAP upon hire.
$20.28 - $25.79 per hour (Range 13 of the 2022-23 Classified Salary Schedule) in-district candidates please refer to your contract. Newberg Public Schools pays 6% PERS contribution, provides a generous insurance cap and long-term disability insurance. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Twelve-month period with holiday and leave time as established or other negotiated work calendar for part-time custodians. Performance will be evaluated in accordance with Board policy on the evaluation of Classified personnel.
