Job Title: Director of Crisis Shelter for Women and Children
Department: Crisis Shelter for Women and Children

Reports To: Director of Women’s Ministry

SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Provide leadership and management oversight, support and accountability at UGM’s Crisis Shelter for women and children.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Key Result Area #1: LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT
- All Employees know and practice UGM’s cultural Core Values and their indicators.
- Implement ministry wide Strategic Plan, ensuring that strategic objectives at the Crisis Shelter are progressively achieved
- All staff know and participate in the Outcome Based Management Process, e.g. SWOT’s, SMART goals, One-on-one’s.
- Women’s Ministries programs and services are aligned to promote long-term recovery and life transformation.
- The Crisis Shelter is effectively serving the emergency needs of women and children in crisis.
- Ensure effective communication between the Crisis Shelter and the other arms of the ministry
- Ensure that UGMM Policies and Procedures are followed at the Crisis Shelter
- The Crisis Shelter is collaborating with LIFE Recovery Programs to promote long-term recovery
- The Crisis Shelter is collaborating with Vocational Advancement and Aftercare to promote successful transition to LRP or work and continued recovery
- A success matrix is maintained with meaningful statistics to substantiate the effectiveness of the ministries.
- Director of Women’s Ministry is aware of all critical activities including staff, operations and programming in your departments.
- SMART WIGS (wildly important goals) are being identified and achieved that are effective in the life transformation of women and children.
- Regular team building and planning meetings are scheduled to discuss the effectiveness of collaboration and programming.
- Serve on the UGM Leadership Team as a collaborative representative of the Women’s Ministry.
Key Result Area #2: VOLUNTEERS
- Ensures that each department at the CS increases and effectively utilizes volunteer staff
- Each staff knows how to apply for a volunteer and is trained to equip their volunteers for purposeful service.
- Each volunteer has a current job description with duties designed to contribute to the objectives of the Women’s Ministries.
- Staff are trained how to interview and identify qualified and suitable candidates.
- Adequate time and resources are allocated to fully train new volunteers including some of the components of Rescue and Recovery.
- All new volunteers receive a condensed safety orientation of the facility and procedures they will be working with.
- Volunteer training opportunities will be provided on several occasions per year
- Staff are documenting One-on-one’s with their volunteers on their Volunteer Score Card.
Key Result Area #3: STAFF
- Each staff position has a current job description with duties designed to contribute to the objectives of the Crisis Shelter.
- A selection committee of two or three trusted staff are trained to assist Director in conducting interviews and identify qualified and suitable candidates.
- Adequate time and resources are allocated to fully train new staff including components of Rescue, Recovery and Restoration
- All new staff attend the first available new employee orientation.
- All new staff receive a safety orientation of the facility and standard operating procedures they will be working with.
- One-on-one’s with staff are documented in their PDP at least once a month. More when necessary.
- At least one staff is designated to be the safety liaison, participate on the Safety Committee and bring safety training back to the team.
- Worker hours are approved on the time clock system daily or weekly, verifying vacation and sick leave time off, to ensure accurate payroll
- Human resources is informed of any changes to personnel, e.g. employment status, job duties, personal information.
- Any actions taken against or by an employee are documented and sent to HR to put in the employee file, e.g. employee warning, incident report
- An employee handbook is available for staff to review when requested.
- Staff training opportunities will be provided on several occasions per year
Key Result Area #4: FINANCIAL, ADMINISTRATION, OPERATIONS
- One employee is designated as the contact for Accounts Payable, and is responsible for sending invoices and receipts to Accounting
- Invoices and receipts are approved and sent to the accounting departments within 24 hours of purchase
- Credit card receipts are accounted for and statements are sent to the accounting department within 7 days of statement closing
- One employee is designated to submit Request for Maintenance Forms-RFM’s.
- Employees submit IT and phone help requests to helpdesk@uniongospelmission.org and respond to follow-up requests when needed
- Written procedure manuals are in place for each administrative, operating and safety process to help guide and train new staff and volunteers
Key Result Area #5: DEVELOPMENT, PR, FUNDRAISING
- Employees know how to cast the vision of their department to volunteers.
- Employees know how to transfer the cause to volunteers and donors on the impact they are making in the lives of our guests.
- Serves as the primary spokesperson for UGM’s Crisis Shelter for Women & Children’
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
Committed Christian, able and willing to model servant-leadership and interested in being part of a ministry for the poor, homeless, drug addicted and mentally ill. Grounded in the Christian faith as a mature, active member of the body of Christ. In accordance with Union Gospel Mission Statement of Purpose, Statement of Vision and Statement of Faith.
- Strong Interpersonal skills - exercise compassion and discernment while modeling the teachings of Jesus Christ.
- Able and willing, as a unified team member, to honor the leadership, chain of command, and standards and ministry objectives of Union Gospel Mission.
- Computer literate (Word, Excel, Outlook); able to complete documents, reports and accurately record information. Willing to continue education as needed or required.
- Excellent communication skills: written, verbal and instructional.
- Must have a teachable spirit and the ability manage multiple emotional and task related variables, listen, and make sound decisions in alignment with UGM’s purpose.
- Minimum ten years of sobriety, if in recovery.
- Insightful, trustworthy, honest, reliable, model appropriate boundaries, and strong work ethic.
- Valid Washington or Idaho driver’s license– NOT NEEDED required.
- CPR/First Aid certification – required.
- Yearly TB clearance – required.
- Criminal background check clearance – required.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL FACTORS:
Occasionally = 1%-33%; Frequently = 34%-66%; Continuously = 67%-100%
- Work is primarily indoors and may require climbing three flights of stairs, sitting, standing, bending, reaching, and going from building to building - Continuously.
- Requires working with a diverse population, many of whom struggle with homelessness, addiction and mental illness – continuously.
- Requires a sustained level of high energy, stamina, and the ability to move about all of the facilities on a regular and ongoing basis – frequently.
- Requires the ability to hear, see, and speak clearly – continuously.
EQUIPMENT/TOOLS USED:
- Computer (Office 365,Word, Excel, Outlook, Web-Browser, UKG Ready HR, Waypoint), Copier/printer, Phone, Fax, Breathalyzer, and Drug Testing Kit.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- BA or MA in Business Administration, Organization Leadership or related field – preferred.
- 5+ year’s prior related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
