Position Summary
The Career & Technical Education (CTE) Advisor will work with CTE faculty and staff to develop innovative pathways and
effectively place students. Specifically, the CTE Advisor will direct day-to-day student advising activities for post-
secondary career and technical education students, support evaluation, create advising guides/training materials,
support advisors throughout the campus community, and work with the CTE Leadership Team to develop and
implement new practices and procedures. This position will be responsible for providing effective communication and
necessary referrals to services to increase student retention and success. This position will provide advising support on
the Neosho campus, as well as the Crowder College ATTC – Joplin campus.
Essential Job Duties
- Provide academic, career, social/personal, financial, and transfer advising to career and technical education
- Serve as the CTE point of contact for Admissions, Records, Financial Aid, and other Student Affairs staff to meet
- Monitor advisee success and help in the development of students’ educational goals.
- Collaborate with the Student Success Center and other Academic Advisors to implement the Academic Alert
- Work with the Accessibility Office to identify and address the needs of students with disabilities.
- Work closely with other CTE staff to recruit students and provide support to prospective students.
- Work closely with CTE Data Specialist to collect, track and report certification and placement data.
- Collaborate with regional technical centers in promoting the Career Pathways initiative – promoting CTE careers
- Participate in College functions where appropriate.
- Complete other duties as assigned to meet the mission of the College.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Associate’s Degree
- Well-developed written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with students, staff, faculty, other professionals,
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a part of a team.
- Ability to use technology for professional productivity and effectiveness.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Bachelor’s degree
- At least 3 years of experience in an educational setting
- Experience advising students in CTE programs or at the college level
- Experience with both transfer-directed and employment-oriented learners
Working Environment
- Both indoors in a normal classroom environment and outdoors on a job site with exposure to temperature
- Normal college working hours but adjustment of hours involving evening and/or weekend work may be required
- A neat appearance and appropriate businesslike apparel are required.
