History Associates Incorporated (HAI) is actively recruiting qualified individuals for a Curator position that supports the Department of Veterans Affairs History Office (VAHO), the NVAHC Archives (NVAHCA), and the NVAHC Museum (NVAHCM). We are looking for qualified candidates immediately with employment contingent upon award of the government contract to HAI. Anticipated start date is June 2023.HAI is a respected organization in the museum and archives field known for employing experienced archivists and historians who go above and beyond to meet our client’s needs. For a third year in a row, HAI has been named as a Great Place to Work! The VA History Office (VAHO) was established on April 10, 2020, at the direction of the Secretary of Veterans Affairs. VAHO’s mission includes the establishment of a VA history program and the establishment of the National VA History Center (NVAHC) under development on the Dayton VA campus. The primary location of work is the historic campus section of the Dayton VA Medical Center located at 4100 W Third St, Dayton, OH 45428 (NVAHC). Offsite performance locations (for interviews and archival research) will be primarily performed within the National Capital Region, Washington, D.C. Contractor personnel may be requested to work at the Government’s alternate locations during emergencies and emergency exercises.
Work schedule will be approximately 40 hours per week within normal business hours, starting no earlier than 0600 hrs. and ending no later than 1800 hrs. each day. You should be available to answer all routine matters during VAHO’s standard working hours, Monday to Friday 0800-1700 Eastern Time. Occasional short-term, long-distance travel may be required.
This position is full-time; 40 hours per week and includes a competitive salary and excellent benefits package including paid holidays; annual and sick leave; medical, dental, life, and disability insurance; and a 401(k) profit sharing.
Responsibilities
Work responsibilities will include physical maintenance of artifacts, planning and arranging storage space, handling incoming artifacts, specialist reference activities, and maintaining collection records.
Education Requirements Requires bachelor’s degree in history, museum studies or related field from an accredited institution.
Master’s degree in museum studies is strongly preferred.
Experience Requirements
Requires at least three years of experience in the management of museum collections. This work must include at least one year of experience accessioning, cataloging, and re-housing of three-dimensional objects.
