The Department of Revenue's (DOR) Property Tax division is looking for new talent to join our Exemptions and Deferrals section. As a part of the team, you will ensure equality of taxation, the uniformity of administration of tax relief programs while delivering excellent customer service.

Duties

As a Tax Service Representative, you will provide assistance to taxpayers, tax practitioners and the public in processing pre-approved applications received from county staff for multiple tax relief programs.

Some more of what you will do includes:

  • Performing functions within a data system required to establish and maintain an account; apply payments; balance receipts, and correct errors; reconcile processed work
  • Performing clerical duties required to maintain electronic files.
  • Providing pre-printed tax information and/or forms along with basic information or instructions to taxpayers.
  • Generating and distributing standardized form letters and documents related to establishing and maintaining an account.
  • Researching, updating reports and tracking data related to the administration of tax relief programs.
  • Generating and sending renewal notifications, program brochures or program applications to taxpayers.
  • Reviewing applications to determine if complete; generate and track information request notices for incomplete applications.

Qualifications

We are looking for candidates who have the following:

Two years of college course work, involving major study in business administration, accounting, public administration, police science, law or closely allied field

OR


Two years of clerk/typist experience involving tax related work, of which one year must be at the Office Assistant Senior level or above


OR


Two years of experience in the field of personal finance, law enforcement, adjustment of claims, collection of civil debts or other directly related field

Preference may be granted to applicants who also possess the following in addition to the qualifications listed above:
  • One year of experience working as a taxpayer service representative (or similar position) in a city, county or state agency.
