Description
SAIC is seeking an early career data scientist with experience using statistical analysis software, data management techniques, and/or a software engineering background. The candidate will join the dynamic team of the Identity and Data Sciences Laboratory (IDSL). The IDSL is tasked with identifying state of the art technologies including facial recognition and AI and examining their applicability to new customer use cases. The IDSL has a cutting-edge infrastructure consisting of both on-prem distributed computing clusters and cloud based analytic environments, which we use for gathering and processing multi-modal data in real-time from large-scale experiments from our test facility (Maryland Test Facility; http://mdtf.org) as well as from external data sources. Our scientists have the option to publish technical papers, enjoy a great work-life balance, and work in an environment that promotes learning and exploration.
The IDSL is based in Upper Marlboro, MD. Up to 20% travel is expected within the continental US. The candidate may work remotely, but bi-monthly travel is expected to IDSL offices in Upper Marlboro, MD.
Responsibilities:
- Contribute to data acquisition, management, and processing tasks, working with software engineers and evaluation designers to build efficient data workflows.
- Work with senior team members to organize, clean, migrate and process datasets with advanced computer vision algorithms.
- Support subsequent data analysis tasks on these data.

- Possess excellent written and oral communication skills.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelors in Computer Science, Data Science, or a Quantitative Science and two (2) years or more experience; Masters and 0 years related experience.
- Proficient in programming (Python, C++, Golang, etc.) and statistical analysis (R, Python, etc.)
- Familiar with source control (e.g., Git)
- Familiar with common data formats (JSON, Parquet, XML, etc.)
- Familiar with database technologies (SQL, NoSQL)
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to present findings and recommendations to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Must be US Citizen.
- Must be able to obtain DHS Public Trust.
Target salary range: $75,001 - $100,000. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
