Job description
SBD is seeking a Database Administrator (DBA) to join our team in support of our Federal Health IT customer. The DBA will assist with migrating the current database from Microsoft SQL to Postgres DBMS. The DBA will be responsible for designing, testing, planning, implementing, protecting, operating, managing, and maintaining our system's databases. This individual will be involved in ensuring a successful migration from the current database system to the new DBMS, and no interruption of service during the migration process.
This position is approved to be fully remote within the United States.
Responsibilities Include:
- Provide database guidance and support to project teams
- Assist with schema design, code review, SQL query tuning
- Install, tune, implement and upgrade DBMS installations
- Write and deploy SQL patches
- Upgrade and improve application schema and data upgrades
- Proactively and regularly make recommendations for system improvements
- Collate, prepare, and present statistical information for internal and external use
- Monitor database operations and understand normal behavior of the databases
- Ensure database backup and recovery jobs and planning are in in place
- Provide database architectural direction to the program and individual project teams
- Ensure database access controls support protecting the data
- Support application and database deployment for application modules
Required Experience and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related information technology field
- 5 years of experience with programming languages such PL/SQL coding
- 2+ years of experience with Postgres DBMS
- 1+ year experience with Postgres Stored Procedures, Triggers Development
- 5+ years of ETL experience using a data integration tool like Informatica, or Talend preferred
- 4+ years of ETL tool administration for Informatica, Abigoa, or Talend preferred
- Easily design and implement a business process into functional and efficient code
- Implement and manage company data management practices and policies
- 3 years of experience in administering, managing and tuning databases
- 5 years of experience with SQL Server or PostgreSQL
- Good understanding of data and schema standards and concepts
- Good understand database design, implementation, trouble shooting and maintenance
- Expertise in SQL

- Great interpersonal and communication skills
- Due to the requirements of our federal client, a minimum of Green Card status is required, and all applicants shall have lived in the United States for at least three (3) out of the last five (5) years
- Must be able to pass a client-specific Public Trust background investigation
- Must be able to pass a comprehensive background check
- Must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19, unless a medical exemption or religious accommodation is approved. Individuals are considered fully vaccinated two weeks after their last dose of their vaccine. Confirmation of vaccine is required.
Desired Experience and Qualifications:
- Experience with managing RDS in AWS
- Prior experience coding with Java
- Prior experience with scripting (Python, JavaScript, Shell (Linux or Windows))
