DGS’s Office of Information Systems and Services (ISS) is a customer-focused organization whose primary responsibility is to provide technology solutions and support to facilitate the success of our agency and its customers.
Job Opportunity
As part of the ISS team, this position is responsible for software administration, performance tuning, problem identification and resolution in support of a wide variety of agency applications and platforms. In addition, the candidate performs collaborative troubleshooting with the Commonwealth’s IT partners where infrastructure issues are involved. It supports infrastructure projects and provides technical leadership of business systems projects. Chosen candidate will be responsible for implementation and maintenance of production, development and test application environments. This individual needs to have a solid understanding of overall information technology concepts, including application data flows and dependencies, as well as the system development life cycle.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Job Responsibilities:
  • Provide support for the administration, maintenance and planning for the Oracle Server database environment.
  • Provide support for the administration, maintenance and planning for SQL Server database environment.
  • Must also provide Linux and Unix System Administration services.
  • Other responsibilities include the coordinating and working with the Senior DBA as well as resources from the business, application development, data modeling, security, and infrastructure areas to develop a solution that advances best practices within enterprise architecture.

Minimum Qualifications
  • DBA experience administering Oracle 11g, 12c or 19c.
  • Strong understanding of database development lifecycle, including data modeling, database coding, testing and implementation.
  • Working knowledge of supporting various HA solutions, including Oracle RAC Systems.
  • Knowledge of Windows Server OS.
  • Understanding of Change Management Control.
  • Understanding of Oracle Advanced Security Encryption Configuration.
  • Experience in Linux and Unix System Administration.
  • DBA experience in SQL Server.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Certified Oracle DBA preferred.
  • Degree in Information Systems or equivalent education/experience preferred.
  • Experience with Oracle RAC Systems preferred.
  • Experience administering systems within the COV executive branch, managed by VITA preferred.
