JOBJOB SUMMARYThe Dean of Instruction reports to the Vice President of Academic Affairs and provides leadership and administrative oversight to faculty and staff in a variety of instructional areas. The Dean of Instruction is responsible for the supervision of developmental education, general education, and program faculty. The Dean works with departments and faculty to maintain high academic standards and support the College’s strategic plan, vision, and mission.

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Supervises and evaluates full time and adjunct faculty. Provides leadership and management for all developmental education, general education, and program faculty. Responsible for faculty hiring, evaluation, retention, discipline, and dismissal. Assist with scheduling, staffing and assigning faculty workload. Reviews and evaluates curricular recommendations and encourages expansion of the instructional program to meet the diverse needs of students in the community, including new students, transfer students, re-entering students, as well as students enrolled in I-BEST, GED, and dual-credit programs. Develops, maintains, and supervises programmatic accreditation, assessment, and articulation. Assesses and prioritizes academic infrastructure needs, including all aspects of instructional design and delivery Supports efforts relative to academic scheduling, accreditation, articulations, assessment (institutional, programmatic, course-level), budgeting, curriculum, catalog revision, distance education, enrollment management, grant writing and administration, faculty and staff hiring, institutional efficiency, instructional technology, professional development, and local and regional outreach. Keeps abreast of current trends in the field, and makes recommendations to the Vice President on staffing, and on the implementation of techniques to improve division policies and practices, increase efficiency, take advantage of opportunities, and maintain state-of-the-art practices. Serves and chairs various shared governance committees. Represents the College at local, state, and national levels of higher education. Attends Executive Cabinet and Board of Education meetings as needed. Develops, recommends, and manages budgets for instructional programs and services. Works with departments to develop academic schedules. Works in accordance with current faculty union agreement. Complies with state and federal reporting requirements and meets all deadlines associated with those requirements. Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
QUALIFICATIONSTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required. Master’s degree or doctorate.At least five years’ teaching experience at the college level, preferably at a community collegeStrong skills in verbal and written communication, organization, and strategic planningExperience with curriculum development and assessmentExperience with regional accreditationExperience with developmental educationKnowledge of a wide range of teaching theories and methodsExcellent organizational, administrative, computer, interpersonal, and oral/written communication skillsExperience in a union environment Open until filled.
