About Upstart

Upstart is a leading AI lending platform partnering with banks and credit unions to expand access to affordable credit. As we transitioned to being a public company, we’re now poised to leverage our domain expertise and revolutionize every aspect of lending and credit risk evaluation. We’ve recently expanded our offerings to include automobile refinancing and we plan to take on more verticals as the business grows.

By leveraging Upstart's AI platform, Upstart-powered banks and credit unions can have higher approval rates and lower loss rates, while simultaneously delivering the exceptional digital-first lending experience their customers demand. Upstart's patent-pending platform was the first to receive a no-action letter from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau related to fair lending. Upstart not only supports a large remote workforce, but also has offices in San Mateo, CA; Columbus, OH; and Austin, TX.

Most Upstarters join us because they connect with our mission of enabling access to effortless credit based on true risk. If you are energized by the impact you can make at Upstart, we’d love to hear from you!

The Team

Upstart’s Platform team builds and maintains the platform for our AI lending products. We create developer-friendly solutions that enable our product teams to rapidly deploy and iterate – without having to get bogged down in CI/CD pipeline implementation details. The team’s mission is to create reliable high-level CI/CD tools that enable our product teams to deploy projects and microservices at whatever pace they wish.

Upstart is looking for talented Infrastructure/DevOps engineers to join our Platform team. As a DevOps Engineer at Upstart, you will help architect, build, automate and scale the tools used by product engineers to build, test, and deliver their code to production. You will be instrumental in defining and implementing our core platform infrastructure and help us realize our data-driven mission of affordable credit.

We are particularly interested in finding DevOps engineers who enable us to “build an airplane factory” instead of merely “building airplanes”. We are seeking contributors who can create extremely reliable, tested, and automated build/deploy pipelines.

Position Location - This role is available in the following locations: Remote, Columbus, Austin (#LI-REMOTE)

Time Zone Requirements - This team operates on the East/West Coast time zones.

Travel Requirements - This team has regular on-site collaboration sessions. These occur 5 days, twice a year at the San Mateo office. If you need to travel to make these meetups, Upstart will cover all travel related expenses.

How you'll make an impact:
Help define the future of and contribute directly to Upstart's cloud infrastructure
Work with our “Ephemeral Environments” team to ensure that product engineers can rapidly spin up fully-working environments to test all of their code
Manage and improve our CI/CD processes to make sure software development and deployment are streamlined and are as simple as possible
Work cross-functionally to support the various product engineering teams
Develop proofs-of-concept and enhancements to our infrastructure tooling and automation

What we're looking for:
Minimum Qualifications:
3+ years of experience in a DevOps role
3+ years of experience working with Ruby/Python or similar
Hands on experience in AWS cloud services (EC2, S3, EKS)
Knowledge of Linux architecture, administration, troubleshooting, and production operations

Preferred Qualifications:
Skills in building CI/CD tooling covered by automated tests
Strong DevOps knowledge and expertise in multiple areas, including scripting, IaC, automation, configuration management, and containerization/container orchestration
A willingness to learn on the job and take on tasks as needed
Ability to inspire other people to work with you, and the skills to remain engaged with a fully-remote team
Hands-on experience with Kubernetes.
Experience with tools similar to Kubernetes, Jenkins, Artifactory, harness, etc

What you’ll love:
Competitive Compensation (base + bonus & equity)

Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage

Personal Development and Technology & Ergonomic Budgets

Life insurance and disability benefits

Clubs and Activities (Game Nights, Fitstarters, Superwomen, Book Club, Investing Club, Money Discussions, Photography Club and Basketball teams)

Generous vacation policy

401(k) and Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP)

Catered lunches + snacks & drinks

The minimum base pay for this position in Colorado is $155,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Base pay may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. This information is provided in accordance with the Colorado Equal Pay Act. It is specific to Colorado and may not be applicable to other locations.

Upstart is a proud Equal Opportunity Employer. We are dedicated to ensuring that underrepresented classes receive better access to affordable credit, and are just as committed to embracing diversity and inclusion in our hiring practices. We celebrate all cultures, backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences, and know that we can only become better together.
