Job description and duties:

Texas RioGrande Legal Aid (TRLA) is seeking a Digital Communications Specialist to develop and oversee its online communication and social media calendar. The Digital Communications Specialist will be responsible for the design and management of Texas RioGrande Legal Aid’s social media platforms. The Digital Communications Specialist will work with the communications team to develop content and conceptualize, create, and produce visually appealing designs for TRLA.

The Digital Communications Specialist will be responsible for implementing brand consistency across communication collateral, including elements for the organization as a whole, as well as for specific initiatives and programs. They will be responsible for the design and content development needs for TRLA lawyers and administrative staff, including, but not limited to, graphics, infographics, newsletters, event invitations, and other promotional materials.

TRLA provides free civil legal services to residents in 68 Southwest Texas counties and represents migrant and seasonal farm workers throughout the state and six other southern states. TRLA is the largest legal aid provider in Texas and is nationally recognized for high-quality, zealous advocacy for its clients. TRLA has offices in Alpine, Austin, Beeville, Brownsville, Corpus Christi, Dallas, Del Rio, Dilley, Eagle Pass, Edinburg, El Paso, Hallettsville, Harlingen, Mercedes, Nashville, Rio Grande City, San Antonio, Sinton, and Victoria. The Digital Communication Specialist reports to the Director of Strategic Initiatives.

Qualifications and preferences:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Graphic Design or related field, or three years’ related experience.

  • Proficiency in graphic design, web development, and social media management.

  • Experience in managing analytics, growing online audiences, and overseeing content strategy for social media and email lists.

  • Ability to design using Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, XD, InDesign).

  • Strong knowledge of Squarespace.

  • Solid understanding of user interface, visual design, site architecture, and web page optimization techniques as well as a strong understanding and appreciation of Web Standards and Web Accessibility principles.

  • Knowledge of HTML and CSS or other web development software a plus.

  • Ability and willingness to travel to TRLA offices to capture events and document activities.

  • Commitment to justice for low-income people in Southwest Texas.
