The Department of Anesthesiology, Director of Clinical Operations will oversee the day to day operations for all anesthesiology workforce deployed to the general and out of operating room anesthestetizing locations (OR/OOR). The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring all Froedtert Main Campus OR/OOR anesthestetizing sites are appropriately staffed. They will use Qgenda to assign faculty to clinical sites, vacation, meetings and academic time, to ensure both safe delivery of clinical care and the ability to develop scholarly work. The Clinical Operations Director will serve in the Anesthesiology In Charge (AIC) role and lead the AIC team.

In collaboration with the Chair and Vice Chair of Clinical Operations/Senior Medical Director, the Director of Clinical Operations will play a key role in managing the development, organization, and success of the Anesthesiology workforce strategic plan which includes oversight of staffing and scheduling related tracking, reporting and decision making.

The Director of Clinical Operations will implement strategic and operational initiatives of F&MCW and the Department of Anesthesiology to ensure that the quality of practice is consistent across all Main Campus anesthestetizing sites and peri-operative workforce.

Additionally, the Clinical Operations Director will assure residency, fellowship, medical student, and Masters of Science in Anesthesiology (Anesthesiologist Assistant) training requirements are incorporated into normal operations.

Reporting Relationships and Key Linkages:

• The Clinical Operations Director reports directly to the Department of Anesthesiology Vice Chair, Clinical Operations, with a matrixed relationship to the Vice President, Operations, Froedtert Hospital and the Chief Medical Officer, Froedtert Hospital.
• Direct reports include Froedtert CRNAs, CAAs; AIC physician team
• The Director of Clinical Operations will serve as clinical partner to the Subspecialtie Directors in the Department of Anesthesiology to optimize scheduling of faculty.
• The Director of Clinical Operations will partner and collaborate with the Department Chair, and the Department Administrator and the staffing/scheduling administrative coordinators to develop and maintain Departmental strategic, financial and operational workforce optimization requirements.

Essential Leader Functions:

2. Works collaboratively with other F&MCW leaders and colleagues to develop and advance operational and strategic goals of the adult specialty practice.

4. Increases national visibility for the practice through enhanced clinical, research, and academic achievement.

5. Demonstrates professionalism, acts with integrity and inspires trust and respect. Promotes professionalism and assures compliance with behaviors consistent with the F&MCW code of conduct. Works with Chairs and Chiefs to address professionalism issues and coaching opportunities across adult-specialty providers.

6. Works collaboratively with department, system, service line and ambulatory platform leadership structure to participate in and influence operating and capital budget development.

7. Works collaboratively with department and health system leadership structure to drive cost efficiency improvement efforts and help execute value-based care initiatives.

8. Ensures a safe environment for clinical care through compliance with accrediting bodies. Works collaboratively to review and revise policies and procedures as necessary to be consistent with current evidence and regulatory standards.

9. Advances new ways of delivering care through technology and innovation

10. Promotes activities that will enhance the patient experience across the peri-operative platform and routinely assesses patient experience data. Works collaboratively with appropriate leadership to develop and implement improvement initiatives

11. Supports high-quality education programs across the entire spectrum of learners, including medical students, residents and fellows, faculty, community-based providers, and consulting physicians within the peri-operative environment.

12. Works collaboratively with the Vice Chair of Quality to ensure the routine delivery of high quality care.

13. Represents the Medical College of Wisconsin and Froedtert Health in regional and national organizations and societies and participates in medical meetings, societies and associations at a national level.

Competency Requirements:

ABA Board Certification in Anesthesiology and active participation in Maintenance of Certification.

The Director of Clinical Operations must be a respected anesthesiologist who possesses strong leadership and organizational skills as well as a demonstrated ability to work effectively in a highly matrixed environment.

The Director of Clinical Operations will be an MD or DO with prior leadership experience in an academic medical center and/or in ambulatory surgery centers and have an established career in clinical operations.
