Job description
East Bay Medical Group (EBMG), the largest physician organization for Alameda Health System (AHS) is recruiting for the position of Medical Group Administrator.
The ideal candidate is an experienced healthcare administrator with previous roles in provider delivery, multispecialty practice management, and/or medical group strategy, operations, and growth. Previous leadership experience is required; in a public or or safety net health system is preferred.
About East Bay Medical Group
East Bay Medical Group is a multispecialty entity that supports the majority of physicians who staff Alameda Health System. We recently formed in July 2020 from two prior medical groups, producing a practitioner base that spans from new residency graduates to tenured master clinicians who have been at AHS for more than 30 years. Job Description
This role reports to the EBMG President. In partnership with the EBMG President, this role is responsible for aligning EBMG’s vision and performance strategy to creating a joyful, sustainable, work environment for physicians; enabling a high quality care experience for patients; and driving operational excellence for AHS. In partnership with the EBMG President, this role leads the development and direction of the culture; clinical, business and market strategies; and oversees day to day operations for the physician organization. This individual will manage a staff of three covering payroll, human resources, contracts, and recruiting.
Essential Responsibilities
- In partnership with the EBMG President, defines the physician organization’s vision for growth, financial sustainability, clinical quality and service scope; education and training; and research and improvement efforts.
- Maintain a keen sense of budgetary targets and progress towards those targets; ensure financial solvency of EBMG; identify growth opportunities and paths towards sustainability.
- Streamline and manage day-to-day operations as they relate to personnel, staffing, and clinical service coverage.
- Manage and motivate a staff of three that covers functional areas including payroll, contracts, recruiting, benefits, and human resources.
- Champion change and innovation. Encourage diverse and creative thinking, pursues new strategies, processes, or tactics to improve care quality, staffing, operational excellence, and physician engagement.
- Recruit, hire, and retain highly qualified clinicians and staff towards EBMG’s goals and contractual agreements with AHS. Identify industry best practices with respect to physician recruiting, staffing models, compensation, wellness, and benefits and adapt them to EBMG’s priorities.
- Build productive and respectful relationships across EBMG and AHS; with unions and the community to integrate and advance our system’s strategic and operational goals.
- Participate in EBMG leadership’s approach to labor negotiations including operationalizing the bargaining unit contract.
- Lead individual and team engagement, including implementing strategies to onboard, develop, retain, and celebrate EBMG physicians and staff.
- Promote an environment of equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging for all EBMG physicians and staff.
- Effectively communicate culture, strategy, and process improvements to energize and motivate physicians and staff to achieve performance expectations.
- Provide oversight of administration and compliance of policies and regulations. Work closely with legal, compliance, and contracting teams across EBMG and AHS.
- Leverage data to make informed decisions. Able to conduct strategic and data-driven analysis to provide insight, recommendations, and execution plans for EBMG’s strategic priorities.
- Along with EBMG and clinical leadership, share accountability for performance of all specialty areas. Creates and iterates on opportunities for regular reporting and performance measurement.
- Other responsibilities as assigned by the EBMG President or their designee.

Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree in healthcare, hospital, business, or public administration (MHA, MBA, MPA) or related field required.
- Minimum ten (10) years of general management and operations experience in a complex, multi-faceted healthcare setting required.
- Minimum three (3) years working with a large physician group practice managing through influence and collaboration.
- Extensive collaboration and partnership experience with physician leadership; demonstrated success in creating a collaborative environment between physician and administrative leaders.
- Experienced manager with creative approach to performance improvement by engaging all team members in measurably improving care for our patients.
- Executive-level strategic communication style. Experienced with strategic narrative, able to communicate broadly to employees, and in one-on-one relationship building.
