About the Role:
Seeking a highly motivated and accomplished drug hunter that has extensive expertise in the utilization of technology to facilitate hit identification and the hit -to-lead process. This candidate will be responsible for providing strategic direction for our Enabling Technologies group at Neurocrine Biosciences. This new group will integrate compound management, research automation, screening (virtual and HTS), computational chemistry, automated synthesis, machine learning, and chemical and bioinformatics to facilitate lead ID across multiple projects. The successful candidate will have a track record of leading diverse scientific groups towards focused goals. Excellent communication skills and the ability to foster teamwork in a matrix environment is essential. Now is an exciting time to join our rapidly growing research department and help shape our drug development strategies across multiple modalities in CNS drug discovery.

Your Contributions (include, but not limited to):

Create, develop and implement the strategic direction for the Enabling Technologies group

Directs a team of diverse scientists, coordinates activities across multiple drug discovery programs, and drives the development and incorporation of novel technologies in research

Anticipates potential issues and provides contingencies and resolutions to continuously improve the rapid identification of quality hits and leads for multiple projects

Conducts and collaborates with others on the principles and theories in chemistry research, drug discovery and drug development
-
Monitors and evaluates completion of major tasks and projects, removes roadblocks where possible for teams
-
Partners with senior leadership within R&D to communicate vision and innovation in drug discoveries in alignment with company goals

Selects, develops and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the project or function

Performs other duties as assigned
Requirements:
-
BS/BA degree in Chemistry and 15+ years of relevant technical and management experience in the pharmaceutical industry. Extensive experience in Machine Learning, Computational Biology, Chemical/Bioinformatics OR

Masters degree in Chemistry and 13+ years of similar experience noted above

PhD in Chemistry and 10+ years of similar experience noted above

Accomplished drug hunter that has extensive expertise and/or experience in research automation, screening, computational chemistry and lead ID.

Possesses the ability to direct a team of researchers, coordinate activities across multiple drug discovery programs, and drive the development and incorporation of novel technologies

Excellent interpersonal, leadership and communication skills are required for interacting with a diverse group of scientists making sure that they are aligned to common goals

Expert understanding of the drug discovery process, screening (virtual & HTS), machine learning and chemical and bioinformatics

Recognized as an internal thought leader with extensive technical and business expertise in drug discovery and development

Evaluates key business / scientific challenges and completes complex, ambiguous initiatives having cross-functional impact

Ability to apply advanced analytical thought and judgment
