Essential Functions
The UTSA Office of Alumni Relations seeks a highly organized, proactive, innovative, and solution-oriented professional, skilled in internal and external communications, and project management, to serve as the Director of Alumni Communications & Special Projects for the Office of Alumni Relations and the UTSA Alumni Association. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Develops, coordinates, and executes thoughtful strategic plans for communication, public relations, and marketing materials, for engagement programs and solicitations, including, but not limited to newsletters, signature fundraising events, and programming.
- Serves as the lead editor for all communications and publications. Editing and approving various formats to ensure that they are in compliance with Alumni Association, University, and System branding standards and requirements.
- Manages the Alumni Association membership, including creating and executing various campaigns, implementing benefits, and overseeing all acquisitions and renewal plans while keeping a pulse on best practices in the Alumni Engagement industry.
- Set priorities and evaluates effectiveness of team.
- Directs and oversees the work of support staff and specialists, assisting with digital and printed communications and marketing, while providing mentoring and guidance to foster professional growth to assigned team members.
- Assists with the coordinated strategic development of initiatives targeting students, alumni, and the campus community.
- Oversees the assignment and implementation of special projects.
- Acts as liaison with other University communications staff.
- Monitors budgets for projects and programs when appropriate.
- Works with area subject matter experts, studies and provides analytics on communications, and analyzes material published by other universities to assist in setting organizational best practices.
- Develops surveys working and collaborating with management.
- Recruit, develop, and supervise staff. Set priorities and evaluates effectiveness of team.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and five years of experience writing, editing, and producing communications. Additional education may substitute for experience on a one year for one year basis.
- One year of supervisory experience.
- Demonstrated understanding of English language usage, writing styles, grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
- Demonstrated knowledge and application of standard concepts, practices, and procedures in writing for print and electronic media.
- Excellent communication and writing skills; strong editing and proofreading skills with the ability to adjust the writing style to the intended audience.
- Ability to organize and track projects and tasks to ensure accuracy, high quality, and timely completion; maintain attention to detail while managing multiple priorities.
- Ability to work independently and handle diverse tasks.
- Proven track record of excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with changing needs and take the design direction and positively respond to feedback
- Ability to work well with diverse groups of colleagues as a team member and as a leader in a complex organizational environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in marketing, journalism, communications or a related field.
- Experience in advancement, higher education, or a nonprofit environment.
- Experience in alumni membership management.
- Experience with website and social media management.
- Experience with Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Premier Pro, and Dreamweaver.
Working Conditions
Working Conditions:
- Ability to travel to and from off-campus events, meetings, or other business-related activities.
- After hours and weekend work is required on an occasional basis.
