Job Objective:

The Director of CTE is an educator who will develop curriculum, processes and partnerships for this growing Goodwill initiative. This role will recruit, direct and supervise instructors and support staff to ensure outcomes align with employer partners skill needs. This role is responsible for connecting programs across the Goodwill footprint to drive enrollment and completion, direct, plan and ensure the execution of the day-to-day operations of multiple sites. This role, based in South Bend, Indiana works closely with the Excel Center staff and reports to the Chief Mission Officer who evaluates performance annually.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Knows and understands the Goodwill Mission: Strengthen communities by empowering individuals and families through education, training and job placement.
  • Plans, develops, and implements a comprehensive program for program participants, students and employees in career and technical education.
  • Identify high demand technical skills needed in our market areas, including but not limited to: CNC, Sewing, Automotive, Carpentry, Welding, Hospitality and Medical, with a focus on accelerated certifications between 8-16 weeks.
  • Works closely with several departments throughout the company, such as our Excel High Schools, Workforce Development Services, Industrial Services, Community Engagement, and Training & Development, to accomplish program goals.
  • Provides direction, consultation, and supervision to employees; consults with staff on individual cases as needed.
  • Develops and implements standards, policies and procedures related to career and technical education; develops short- and long-range goals for the division; monitors the progress of various services; makes recommendations for changes.
  • Ability to connect and build relationships with business leaders across Goodwills geographic footprint.
  • Recruit industry experts to come to Goodwill to teach.
  • Ability to connect program participants, students, and employees with resources outside of Goodwill to obtain desired certification or skills.
  • Supervises Career and Technical Education in-house staff.
  • Assists in the preparation of budgets for CTE programs.
  • Knowledge or ties to state workforce development.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to learn and teach hard skills, including, but not limited to: forklift and pallet jack operations, training simulators, measuring tools, scales, and other industrial equipment.
  • Ability to relate to individuals coming from a variety of economic, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds.
  • Broad knowledge of apprenticeships and certifications available.
  • Strong knowledge of CTE components and language.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.
  • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors degree in related field is preferred.
  • Prior experience leading a CTE program in Indiana and/or experience as the employer partner.
  • Experience in an education setting that supports adults ages 18 and up who struggle to succeed in the traditional education system.
