Job Summary
The Director of Clinical Operations is responsible for the effective, compliant, and financially-sound operation of the Harvard Dental Center (HDC). The incumbent will oversee clinical practices and operations, including but not limited to, finances, regulatory compliance, clinical personnel, and safety and standards of care. They will perform their responsibilities in a large-scale, educationally focused dental practice.
Position Description
- Responsible for the clinical and operational management of the Harvard Dental Center; provides leadership and guidance accordingly
- Ensures overall operation and staff adherence to federal, state, and local regulations
- Diligently monitors, analyzes, and manages fiscal resources and relevant budget(s) for profitable, long-term operations; works with the Assistant Dean to identify and implement strategic efficiency and cost-saving measures
- Promotes a patient-centered culture with focus on safety, standards of care, and customer service
- Assesses clinical technology and makes recommendations, as necessary
- Collaborates with the Office of Human Resources to develop, implement, and maintain effective strategies for the recruitment and retention of qualified personnel; ensures personnel are adequately trained and licensed to perform their duties; addresses issues as necessary
- Develops and maintains collaborative, professional relationships with faculty, staff, students and external constituents to further the mission and vision of the Harvard Dental Center
- Serves on cross-functional teams and committees, as assigned by the Assistant Dean
- Contributes to a culture of inclusivity and respect.
- Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, public health, health care administration, or related field
- At least 10 years of full-time relevant professional experience within a clinical setting, including at least 5 years of supervisory experience
- Ability to successfully balance multiple priorities, often with competing deadlines and demands
- Superior verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated experience managing budgets and fiscal resources
- Ability to review, analyze, and interpret financial data
- Strong leadership and coaching skills, ability to obtain buy-in, and enhance workplace culture
- Experience and demonstrated success working in a multicultural and global environment
- Ability to work full-time, in-person, with the opportunity for occasional remote work
- Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation
- Ability to successfully pass a comprehensive background check at hire
Additional Qualifications and Skills
- Master’s degree
- Experience working in a dental setting
- Experience working in higher education/academia
Physical Requirements
This position may require prolonged periods of sitting and/or standing.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in and office/clinical setting. The primary work location for this position is Boston, MA. In order to be on Harvard payroll, you must reside in one of the following states – MA, NH, RI, ME, CT, VT, NY, or MD. The Harvard School of Dental Medicine will support flexible work schedules subject to individual departments’ business needs.
