The Natural Capital Project (NatCap) seeks an experienced communications professional to assume primary responsibility for promoting the research, initiatives, and expertise of our scholars and practitioners.

JOB PURPOSE:
NatCap cannot have the impact it intends to have on the targeting of investments in nature without professional communications to elevate its work, communicate with leaders, and tell NatCap stories in diverse and innovative ways. The Director of Communications will create and execute on a strategic plan for NatCap communications, which includes both internal and external audiences. Execution of the plan will include duties such as: conceiving of and producing editorial content and audio/visual collateral such as news releases, research briefs, social media posts and video/animation scripts; curating an internal newsletter; producing the quarterly newsletter for external constituents; growing and measuring the impact of NatCap’s social media presence; overseeing the NatCap website; engaging with media and preparing NatCap scientists for engagement with media; promoting and helping to staff NatCap convenings; assisting the science team with reports to funders; and providing essential day-to-day project management and coordination to ensure the project is effectively leveraging the communications resources of the partnership.

LOCATION:
This role is based in Palo Alto at the Stanford Campus.
CORE DUTIES*:
- Develop communication deliverables in an area of expertise or for a unit or a complex program.
- Develop complex communications for various content delivery channels.
- Develop and design complex materials according to defined requirements using software applications and mediums.
- Work with vendors to obtain information to evaluate quality, process, and costs to support vendor selection.
- Maintain knowledge by attending webinars, conferences, networking etc. to remain at the forefront of current industry standards, trends and technology.
- Contribute to the development of communication strategy for the unit or program.
- Analyze data and curate illustrations, photos, and pictures for assignments.
- Work in collaboration with Institutional Communicators on media relations content and other areas.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree and five years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with internal communications groups across campus.
- Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated ability to synthesize complex materials and communicate information in a manner easily understood.
- Experience with project management and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Demonstrated ability to perform detailed work with high level of accuracy and attention to detail.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- A solid working knowledge of science communications with an emphasis on conservation and ecosystem services, and related policy challenges and issues.
- A strong media relations background with experience cultivating media contacts, building targeted media lists, and conceiving, writing, and editing news releases as well as short-form pitches.
- Ability to work with an external graphic designer to produce websites, factsheets, and other collateral.
- Comfortable and experienced with technology, specifically the Microsoft Office and Adobe software suites, blast email services such as Mailchimp or iContact; website CMS systems; and CRM software such as Cision and SalesForce.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:
- Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks.
- Frequently stand/walk, sit, use a telephone, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, speaking.
- Occasionally grasp forcefully, writing by hand.
- Rarely sort/file paperwork.
