The Director of Counseling Services is responsible for leadership and oversight of the Counseling Center, with the goal to ensure consistent, quality care and wellness education for students. The Director provides counseling, psychotherapy, crisis intervention, and educational programming to Saint Rose students and offers clinical supervision and direction to professional Counseling staff and interns. This position reports to the Associate Vice President for Student Development.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • In collaboration with AVP for Student Development and the Director of Health Services, create and implement a vision and goals for Counseling Center and Health Services to provide a comprehensive wellness model of care to students, in alignment with the College's strategic plan.
  • Oversee all aspects of department administration, including hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating all personnel, budget management and implementation of policies and procedures.
  • Oversee the maintenance of counseling case documentation and medical records according to NY State guidelines.
  • Manage and work closely with all personnel of the Counseling Center to ensure effective administration of this area.
  • Provide leadership and serve as a resource to all Counseling Center staff, ensuring accomplishment of goals and inspiring the culture of excellence.
  • Develop and implement consistent and appropriate treatment strategies for the Counseling Center.
  • Provide psychotherapy, counseling, crisis intervention and psychological consultation for students.
  • Serve in a rotating, on-call capacity to provide clinical care for students in emergent or triage situations.
  • Provide direct clinical supervision for doctoral and master's level interns including clinical case management, consultation, upholding document standards, quality assurance, and coordinating treatment plans.
  • Develop proposals and implement revenue generating programs for the Counseling Center, if appropriate.
  • Identify potential grant-funding opportunities for the department and work with other College administrators on developing grant proposals.
  • Collaborate within the Division of Student Development, campus-wide and with off-campus medical and mental health providers regarding students' health care needs.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Health Services to develop and implement campus-wide student wellness initiatives.
  • Represent Counseling Center at Division meetings, Campus Assessment, Response and Intervention Team (CARIT) meetings, and other college-wide teams.
  • Develop assessment data for Counseling Center and use the information to continuously improve services to students.
  • Remain professionally current in knowledge and practice and ensure that staff remain appropriately licensed.

Job Requirements:
Required Qualifications:

  • Doctorate in counseling psychology, clinical psychology, or a closely related field.
  • Licensed as a psychologist in the state of New York or currently licensed in another state and eligible to attain New York licensure prior to starting employment.
  • At least three years of management-level experience in the area mental health practice and administration.
  • Postdoctoral experience providing mental health counseling.
  • Professional experience providing clinical counseling supervision.
  • Proven history of quality service working with underrepresented populations.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and experience managing employees with commitment to diversity, teamwork and service excellence.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills including the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of diverse constituents, including students, parents, faculty, staff, and senior management.
  • Intermediate level computer skills using MS Office Suite, including Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as part of the on-call rotation and on an emergency basis.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree from an APA accredited doctoral program.
  • Experience working in college mental health counseling services.
  • Clinical experience with the developmental concerns and issues of college students.
  • Experience as a supervisor or participant in a clinical training program (i.e. doctoral internship, postdoctoral fellowship, advanced practicum training program) within a college or university setting is preferred.
  • Familiarity with the laws, regulations and best practices pertaining to college counseling services.
  • Working knowledge of electronic health records.

Additional Information:*
This is a 11-month position. Full time, Monday-Friday work schedule. Additionally, this position participates in an on-call rotation and must be available to assist with any emergency response that could occur during evenings or weekends.*
