Director of Home Medical Services
Job description
The Director of Home Medical Services is responsible for day-to-day management of operations for all non-clinical services to include Non-emergency transportation (NEMT) and Durable Medical Equipment (DME). The Director of Home Medical Services will exercise management principles to ensure profitability, control assets, and communicate company philosophy and objectives to the staff and community.
Duties & Responsibilities
· Present the organization in a pleasant and professional manner at all times.
· Maintain strict confidentiality of information.
· Adheres to and implements all company policies and procedures. Initiates appropriate actions on reports and recommendations provided by authorized inspection agencies.
· Calls on key referral sources, develops new referral sources and maintains key accounts
· Takes appropriate action to ensure that the company complies with applicable laws and regulations
· Develops marketing plan for the Home Medical Services
· Maintains ongoing liaison with company staff, billing department, senior management, and/or corporate staff as required. Participates in local meetings as requested.
· Responsible for materials procurement and distribution. Ensures company standard of Inventory level is met
· Responsible for physical inventory as required
· Monitors and controls the company assets at both the company locations and in customers’ homes.
· Monitors and establishes a positive working relationships with all Departments
· Develops and maintains a working knowledge of current Medicare, Medicaid and insurance regulations impacting the Home Medical Services
· Develops a team with excellent telephone skills, accountability and the ability to identify individual customer needs
· Interviews/works with managers to hire staff as needed for different lines of the business with an emphasis on recruiting best qualified candidates
· Conducts in-service training for appropriate staff members at routine intervals on products, telephone techniques, third part payer procedures, billing issues, or other relevant topics as necessary to improve service.
· Evaluates each employee annually and establishes goals for the upcoming year
· Works with managers to develop staff as needed for each department
· Monitors company operational expenses to comply with established limits
· Monitors current purchasing on a regular basis to assure buying power is maximized
· Maintains and updates all manuals necessary for company operations and establishes process to evaluate company’s compliance with applicable policies and procedures
· Maintains compliance with all accreditation policies and communicates with them as needed
· Participates in all accreditation processes
· Responsibility for maintaining high quality standards and is responsible for implementing quality outcome/performance improvement program for all Home Medical Services.
· Attends Governing Body meetings as requested.
· Prepares information/statistics as required for Senior Leadership, Governing Body and/or Quality meetings
· Manages all requirements to maintain accreditation to include quality of the departments.
· Responsible to supervise all Home Medical Services managers and staff to include Respiratory Therapist, Customer Service Representatives, NEMT Coordinators, NEMT Drivers, Warehouse Distribution Supervisor, and any other specific Home Medical Services staff as needed.
· Effective collaboration and working relationship with the Director of Patient Services
· Responsible for overall growth of all Home Medical Services year over year
· Responsible for site Emergency Preparedness plan and oversight
· Responsible for site maintenance to include property contracts
· Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

· Associates Degree in Business, Bachelor’s Degree in Business preferred or related equivalent experience in DME, Home Health Industry.
· Marketing experience preferred
· Respiratory Therapy experience a plus
· 1-3 years’ prior Supervisory experience
· Effective verbal and written communication skills with staff, supervisors, patients, and referral sources.
· Ability to organize, plan, and delegate properly in accordance with size and services of the location
· Understanding of accounting and business management
· Computer literacy to include Microsoft Office suite to include Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, NEMT transportation software, and DME inventory/distribution software
· Knowledge of all Major insurance carrier’s eligibility and reimbursement guidelines a plus
· Strong character and uncompromising ethics
· Demonstrates a sympathetic attitude toward those in need of care.
· Strong organizational skills and the ability to work under pressure.
License Requirements
· Valid NY state driver’s license
Working Conditions
· Physical ability including but not limited to: walking, bending, stopping, climbing stairs, sitting and speaking on the telephone for long periods of time.
· Periodically lifting up to 50 pounds.
· Vision acuity correctable to normal.
· Ability to work within office and Warehouse environments
· Ability to work in a rapid pace environment
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $75,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
