JOB TITLE: Director of Instruction
OBJECTIVE: The Assistant Director of Instruction sets the vision and direction for instructional support in Sumner County Schools, directing the delivery of programs to ensure that they benefit the educational experience of every student. This is accomplished through providing coaching, planning, evaluating, and feedback assistance to leaders and teachers.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides feedback and support to the Director of Schools on the instructional program in SCS.
- Coordinates with other Assistant Directors to provide continuous support to leaders, teachers, students, and support staff.
- Leads curriculum development, implementation, and assessment for SCS.
- Provides timely information and instructional updates to the school board and parents.
- Leads the implementation and support of foundational literacy and literacy intervention support for all students.
- Directs and evaluates the Instruction Department to include CTE/STEM, curriculum and instruction, professional development, leadership development, instructional technology, interventions, assessment, accountability, and federal programs).
- Develops and supports innovative career programs for middle and high school.
- Ensures Response to Intervention (RTI) and English Language Learner supports are in compliance with state and federal law.
- Monitors the progress of school performance, student achievement objectives and academic excellence indicators to align strategies for school improvement.
- Compiles data from a variety of sources for the purpose of evaluating district instructional programs, developing and implementing new programs/services, and complying with financial, legal and administrative requirements.
- Develops and manages budgets, expenditures and related financial activities to ensure that allocations are accurate, revenues are recorded, expenses are within budget limits and fiscal practices are followed for local, state, and federal budgets.
- Ensures proper coding and submittal of information to maximize TISA funding for SCS.
- Prepares grant applications for submittal (e.g. through researching, identifying available grants from federal, state, and private sources and local matching funding, writing, editing) for the purpose of to support existing and planned program activities.
- Ensures Title I, II, and III programs comply with state and federal guidelines.
- Ensures professional learning activities for teachers and leaders are relevant, ongoing, and collaborative.
- Develops and supports ongoing coaching and professional growth opportunities for teachers and leaders.
- All other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Master’s degree in education.
- Ten (10) years of experience in teaching plus five (5) years of district or school principal level leadership.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Hold a valid Tennessee teaching license with an endorsement in administration; or hold a Beginning Administrator License (BAL, ILL-B) with requirements to move in three (3) years to a Professional Administrator License (PAL, ILL-P); or hold a Professional Administrator License.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $90,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year
