The Supervisor - Pesticide Application oversees, supervises, coordinates, and provides expert knowledge in the use and application of pesticides. Directs crews performing work and provides technical knowledge. Ensures that PMO chemical application are in line with the city’s environmental initiatives, like the Comprehensive Environmental and Climate Action Plan (CECAP). Responsible for tracking chemical usage across PMO operations
Essential Functions:
Oversees, supervises, coordinates, and facilitates the success of the PMO IMP program; monitors and supervises employees providing services to internal and external stakeholders ensuring park areas remain free from exposure of potentially hazardous, overgrown, and unsightly vegetation growth regulated by the City of Dallas and the Texas Department of Agriculture.- Develops schedules, priorities, and standards for improving IMP compliance, and increased usage of “green” chemicals. Ensures chemical usage complies with the CECAP.
- Coordinates chemical related purchases, maintenance service, and incident reports regarding sprayer rig vehicle.
- Assists maintenance districts with chemical applications as needed, either through logistical help between districts or conducting the actual application
- Approves, submits, and orders chemical supplies, equipment, and PPE; oversees, monitors, tracks, and coordinates inventory control and storage; compiles and tracks upgrades, maintenance service, and incident reports regarding sprayer rig vehicle.
- Assists and supports the Contract Manager with contract administration for multiple contracts; monitors, coordinates, and facilitates inspector work locations; identifies and determines what needs to be addressed or improved and disseminates service orders and work requests; receives, processes, and researches invoices and professionally communicates to various entities.
- Assists maintenance districts with chemical applications as needed, either through logistical help between districts or conducting the actual.
- Collaborates with the Manager-Conservation, district applicators and District Managers to establish chemical tracking program that can quickly summarize PMO chemical usage.
- Provides quality customer service by communicating effectively with customers and responding to issues or concerns timely and professionally; participates in budget development and administration and provides coaching for competent practices and procedural efficiency.
- Collaborates with the Urban Biologist on invasive species control chemical application, and IPM/Integrated Vegetation Management (IVM) practices. May involve work supervising volunteer efforts.
Minimum Requirements:
Four (4) years experience in the application of herbicides and pesticides with at least two (2) years supervisory experience.
Licenses and Certifications
Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) Pesticide Certified Applicator License
Education
High School Diploma, GED
Knowledge and Skills
Knowledge of city, state, or federal codes, ordinances, rules, regulations and standards in pesticide and herbicide application, management, and operations.- Knowledge of Integrated Pest Management and Integrated Vegetation Management.
- Knowledge of chemical usage tracking software, procedures and equipment.
- Knowledge of customer service practices and principles.
- Knowledge of Project management and regulations pertaining to the application of pesticides and herbicides.
