The Department of Anesthesia and Perioperative Care is seeking a Director of Trauma and Acute Care Anesthesia (DTACA) at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital (ZSFG). Reporting to the ZSFG Associate Chief of Clinical Operations, the DTACA is responsible for all trauma care relevant efforts, including but not limited to strategy, planning, clinical care, operations, quality & performance improvement, education, and research in order to maintain and expand the state-of-the-art trauma and acute care anesthesia operation for ZSFG. Equally, the DTACA is tasked to ensure a national reputation and produce a visible and active engagement furthering the subspecialty of Trauma and Acute Care Anesthesia. The DTACA is asked to coordinate and initiate trauma and acute care centric research within the Department, as well as building and expanding collaborations with other departments. The DTACA also serves as a liaison to both the Department of Surgery, the Critical Care Units and the Emergency Department maintaining a collaborative, collegial, and productive partnership. Additionally, the DTACA oversees the Trauma Anesthesia and Acute Care Fellowship Program at ZSFG.

The Director of Trauma and Acute Care Anesthesia is responsible for:
- Oversight of all aspects of anesthesia related clinical care and operations for acute care and trauma patients
- Developing and deploying the strategy for all the Department’s efforts relevant to trauma and acute care.
- Partnering with Trauma Surgery and Emergency Medicine to optimize collaboration and collegiality for seamless trauma care.
- Collaborating with other services including Emergency Medicine on patient safety initiatives and quality improvement efforts.
- Working with trauma related surgical specialties to optimize perioperative management of injured patients, including general surgery, orthopedics, and neurosurgery.
- Research efforts as they pertain to the care of the injured. This includes but is not limited to: coordination of all trauma-related research projects, collaboration with anesthesia leadership to strategize research efforts in trauma and acute care anesthesia, mentor junior researchers and fellows for trauma-related research projects, interact with other departments actively involved in trauma-related research (Surgery, Emergency Medicine, SICU, Neuroscience ICU).
- Maintaining the Trauma Anesthesia and Acute Care Fellowship at UCSF/ZSFG. This includes, but is not limited to: recruitment, selection, mentorship, education, and advocation of the Fellows. The DTACA will work with the ZSFG Associate Chief of Education & the Anesthesia Education Committee at ZSFG to provide an intense, structured, and valuable fellowship.
- Quality and Performance Improvement efforts within the trauma and acute care domain. The DTACA will work in collaboration with anesthesia QI leadership to identify, follow and analyze trauma-specific metrics. The DTACA will coordinate quality improvement clinical projects.

- Must hold an MD, DO, or equivalent degree and be board eligible or certified in Anesthesia.
- Must possess a valid California Medical License
- Must be fellowship trained or have equivalent advanced training and/or experience beyond that of anesthesia residency training.
