Dispatcher
Reports to: Communication Supervisor/Manager

Summary/Objective
Under general supervision, provides basic level emergency and non-emergency care to the ill and injured, to include assessment of illness and/or injury, management of such patients, preparation for transport, transfer of information, and patient care.

The primary duties and responsibilities for the Dispatcher include but are not limited to the following:
- Ensuring that all transport requests are picked up in a timely manner (using either phone or computer)
- Ensuring all crews are accounted for at all times
- Ensuring that callers are notified of any delays in transports.
- Ability to demonstrate responsibility by receiving, assimilating, and recording information accurately into our system and respond appropriately
- Efficiently dispatching of transport requests and relaying appropriate information to field crews
- Knowledge of geography of service area
- Operates computers, software, and multi-line phone system.
- Ensures the provision of optimal transportation services to patients and referring agencies.
- Flexible as to his/her work schedule and able to work varying shifts, including Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.
Preferred Experience:
- EMT Basic certification
- EMS Dispatch experience
Qualified applicants will have 1+ year of office experience (data entry is important), medical terminology background and experience communicating using the phone or computers. Call Center or Dispatch experience is helpful!

Physical Demands
- The employee is regularly required to sit at a computer terminal, use hands to and arms to reach, finger, handle, or feel, and finger dexterity necessary to operate equipment used in the position.
The employee is required to talk, see, and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. There is some standing, walking, sitting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling and minimal lifting associated with the classification as it is currently performed.
- Ability to travel and attend meetings away from regular work site may be required.
Subject to lifting up to 10 pounds; standing, bending, stooping and reaching or sitting for twelve hour periods, continuous contact with monitors, and noise from communications and office equipment.

Required Education and Experience
- Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Prior Dispatch, EMT, Paramedic or RN experience preferred.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Proficiency in spelling and writing English.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work in a team environment.
- Ability to deal with high stress situations.
- Working knowledge and proficiency of electronic communication.
- Able to quickly manage and transition between various tasks while maintaining attention to detail.
