Summary:

The San Diego American Indian Health Center (SDAIHC) is a patient-centered health home that provides comprehensive medical, dental, behavioral health, and community wellness services that are available to all San Diegans. Founded in May 1979, we honor the wisdom of community leaders who believed urban American Indians living in our city should have community-based health care rooted in traditional cultural values. The Position
The Educational Outreach Engagement Lead will be responsible for conducting outreach in the community to raise awareness of and promote San Diego American Indian Health Center Clinic’s Medical, Dental, and Behavioral Health Programs (In Person, Telephonic, Media, Digital).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop strong resources and engaging methods of delivery of healthcare messaging to Urban Native Americans, while understanding the sensitivity necessary in serving populations that may be affected by historical trauma.
  • Conduct targeted outreach and training to community-based organizations
  • Participate in events/fairs that could potentially result in partnerships with San Diego American Indian Health Center
  • Maintain tracking logs of outreach efforts
  • Work Collaboratively to develop outreach strategies
  • Understanding, appreciation of, and strong personal commitment to the issues involved in diversity
  • Monitor receipt and accuracy of data submitted by nutrition and physical activity staff.
  • Create and manage regular digital communication performance reports and key takeaways, including key analytics for the purpose of maximizing enrollment.
  • Facilitate presentations in the community.
  • Working evenings and weekends may be required for special events/meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations or another related field preferred.
  • Health care experience and experience marketing to ethnic populations preferred.
  • Marketing background preferred

Certifications/Licenses Required:

  • CA valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Proof of current vehicle insurance (if applicable)
  • Must take and pass the State of California Covered California and Medi-Cal Marketing Certification exam within 60 days of hire

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong interpersonal skills with proven ability to cultivate and build positive relationships with internal departments and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent writing and presentation skills required.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to work under pressure and multi-task.
  • Strategic thinker with analytical skills.
  • Strong MS Office, computer and Social Media skills are required.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred.
  • Knowledge of and/or experience with HMO, Medi-Cal/Medicaid, Medicare
  • Principles and practices of health care service delivery, managed care, health care systems
  • Appropriate sales and marketing techniques to outreach to diverse social and ethnic groups and to communicate effectively with them
  • Systems and procedures to efficiently track and trend all sales activity
  • Knowledge and/or experience with the healthcare market, including competitors, regulations, and available resources
  • Knowledge on how to create contacts and generate a referral source
  • Comfortable with monthly goals and productivity metrics.
  • Effective interpersonal skills.
  • Able to deal effectively with a diversity of individuals
  • Must possess the skills necessary to provide care for all patients, must thrive in team environment, must possess good organizational and ability to effectively handle difficult and unusual interpersonal situations.

Physical and Mental Requirements:

  • Able to lift/move up to 40 pounds, move from place to place, and stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to do math, organize and prioritize workload, work effectively and efficiently under stress
  • Ability to multitask, understand and follow instructions
  • Ability to proficiently read, write, speak and understand English

  • Ensures compliance with policies and procedures related to safe work practices.

  • Flexibility: *Available for all shifts and, when required, able to work evenings and weekends
