This position is with our Instrumentation, Controls & Vision Systems (ICVS) Business Unit in the growing AMETEK Power Systems & Instruments Division. ICVS consists of three product lines: National Controls Corporation (NCC), Vehicular Instrumentation Systems (VIS), and Motec Heavy-Duty Camera Solutions. NCC specializes in electronic controls for commercial kitchens and industrial facilities. VIS provides global solutions for rugged instrumentation, driver information displays, graphics displays, and message centers for On and Off-road heavy vehicles. Motec focuses on the development and manufacture of customized analog and digital camera monitoring systems for commercial vehicles and mobile machines.
Job Summary:
As an Electrical Design Engineer, you will serve a key role in the conceptualization and development of new technologies and products for AC and DC power processing. You will provide expertise in the implementation of emerging technologies and perform duties designing the display, power, and control hardware content for the realization of new product concepts.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop product requirements and perform electronic hardware design based upon customer specifications and industry regulations.
- Create required engineering documentation to support new product development. This includes schematics, specifications, drawings, bills of materials, test plans and reports, and other related documentation.
- Conduct verification and validation testing on new and existing designs. Work with both internal and external resources to complete testing.
- Work with other groups within the Instrumentation Systems (IS) organization (Software, Mechanical, and Manufacturing Engineering) to support the manufacture and delivery of products during development and after the start of production.
- Identify new technologies and design solutions to enable IS displays and controls to be the best in class in terms of cost, quality, and performance.
- Develop concept designs and provide product costs to support customer requests for quotations.
- Provide design/validation solutions for component obsolescence.
- Participate in hardware/software design reviews.
- Work with teams to release the products to production. This involves design for manufacturing, documentation for PCBA, and documentation to release the ECO and deviations.
- Define the parts to build harnesses for some products.
- Participate in customer calls and provide technical leadership to the customer.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering or equivalent experience in lieu of this degree.
- 3 years of experience in electronic hardware development and manufacturing.
Desired Qualifications:
- Knowledge of instrumentation and controls, DC/DC power supplies, and communication protocols.
- Experience in digital hardware design as applied to displays, power conversion, including ADC/DAC signal conversion, microcontrollers, and high-speed digital communications.
- Knowledge of relevant industry standards/regulations (CE, UL, etc.) and experience with demonstrating compliance via qualification testing.
- Experience working with customers at various stages of product development starting with initial concept reviews to post-launch product support.
- Good written and oral communication skills.
- Exhibit drive and initiative in completing tasks.
- Team player who can work well with others to accomplish tasks.
