JOB DESCRIPTION FOR ELEMENTARY OR SECONDARY SCHOOL COUNSELOR
Reports to: Principal
Basic Function: Help students overcome problems that impede learning and to assist them in their lifelong journey.
Basic Responsibilities:
- Counsel students on a one-to-one basis, in small groups and in classroom situations.
- Collaborate with administration on student scheduling.
- Use a variety of counseling and guidance techniques to help students find solutions to their own personal-social/emotional problems.
- Participate in the orientation programs for students entering the next grade and new students.
- Keep up-to-date files of guidance information as well as educational and occupational information.
- Assist teachers in developing a team approach to planning and implementing classroom guidance.
- Consult with staff members concerning student achievement and social emotional well-being.
- Consult with teachers concerning student progress as needed.
- Cooperate and confer with administrative and building staff regarding their concerns about any student’s behavior.
- Coordinate and support district or building-wide assessments.
- Assist collaboratively with building level SAT teams.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
