Job description
The Anne Arundel County Department of Social Services is looking for an Eligibility Specialist/Family Investment Specialist I to work in the Annapolis location and to travel to offsite facilities within Anne Arundel County. The Family Investment Specialist I will determine eligibility and provide case management services for the Family Investment Administration programs in accordance with Federal, State, and local regulations.
Essential Duties:
1. Complete customer interviews and pend applications in all program areas, to include screening for expedited food supplement and processing expedited food supplement within established time frames. At all times, the incumbent will provide customer service to both internal and external customers that meets or exceeds the standards set by the Department.
2. Determine eligibility timely in accordance with federal and state policy and procedures in order to yield on-time rate of 96% or better.
3. Maintain payment accuracy within established guidelines, as measured by Supervisory Review System (SRS) reviews and Quality Control (QC) reviews.
4. Complete caseload/case maintenance activities daily, including but not limited to: Accurately dispositioning 100% of New Hires alerts, processing CRM’s on or before the designated due dates; processing other interim changes; processing existing cases for reconsideration of continued benefits; completing caseworker check off lists to ensure that applications, reconsiderations, and interim changes are processed timely; narrating case actions in the CARES within 24 hours, if the system is available; and maintaining the work area to include timely handling of mail and filing of records.
5. Travelling to offsite facilities within Anne Arundel County.
6. To provide mass care and sheltering to surviving persons following a disaster affecting residents of Anne Arundel County and the State of Maryland, when necessary. These duties may include manning a shelter or assisting residents to file for assistance from FEMA or from State programs.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: Six months of public contact experience involving negotiating, interviewing, explaining information, gathering and compiling data, performing analysis of data, writing correspondence, and completing mathematical or legal tasks.
OR
Six months of general office, retail, food service, construction trades, or similar experience including data entry, record filing and maintenance, multi-line phone use, general computer skills and email software. General clerical, data processing, technical or administrative experience is defined as work performing a variety of duties which are clear-cut and typically found in office settings, such as filing, copying, inputting data, general computer skills, and directing telephone calls.
OR
Six months of experience in the U.S. Armed Forces.

The Office of Personnel Services and Benefits of the Department of Budget and Management and the Examination Services Unit of the Maryland Department of Human Services do not have the authority to accept substitutions or equivalents.
