GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Endoscopy Tech responsibilities include: assisting physicians during endoscopic procedures and assisting the Registered Nurse in the admitting, recovery and discharge rooms, disinfect, clean and organize equipment, instruments, supplies in the endoscopy room, assist with the safe transport of patients to and from the endoscopy rooms, cleans and disinfects endoscopes and computer data entry for the next day schedule along with other duties.
Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Setting up and maintaining equipment, including correctly assembling needed equipment, as appropriate, and any accessories
  • Assisting physicians during endoscopic procedures; cleans and disinfects procedure rooms
  • Cleaning, disinfecting and reprocessing endoscopes and associated accessories
  • Keeping an accurate inventory of supplies and supply ordering
  • Cross trained to work in PACU including but not limited to patient care, chart documenting and auditing, linen care, scanning, general paperwork etc.
  • Shares all pertinent observations, assessments and recommendations regarding patient needs to the RN or charge nurse.
  • Ensures proper and accurate identification of patient and procedure with the procedure team.
  • Performs nursing tech actions with safety, skill, efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Ensures patients' right to privacy and confidentiality.
  • Demonstrates creativity and innovativeness, while adhering to accepted policies and procedures.
  • Regularly demonstrates ability to exercise independent judgment in times of need and emergency situations.
  • Assists physicians in drawing up and pushing medications under the physicians license (see short list at the end of the page.
  • Cross train in minor cysto cases.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Completion of one of the following four:
  • Completion of a nurse assistant training program; OR
  • Six months previous nurse assistant experience; OR
  • Successful completion of the first semester of nursing school clinical, which includes basic clinical skills.
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • One year nurse assistant experience in an acute care setting.
REQUIRED LICENSE/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION:
  • Healthcare Provider BLS through the AHA or ARC before start date.
  • Certification as a CNA in the State of Kansas

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Regular and Holiday call is required
  • 30min response time
MEDICATIONS ALLOWED TO DRAW UP/ PUSH
  • Epinephrine – push through scope
  • Lidocaine 1% - draw up and push
  • Lidocaine 2% and 4% - apply to swabs
  • Botox – push through scope
  • Contrast – cysto cases, managed on back table
  • Glydo (Lidocaine jelly in pre-drawn syringe) – cysto cases, managed on back table
