The primary focus areas will be engineering and quality for the Virginia Class Submarine (VCS) X83 Design/Build/Sustain (DBS) team on-site Field Office at Electric Boat (EB). X83 offices are located in Groton/New London, Connecticut and at EB’s Quonset Point manufacturing facility in North Kingstown, Rhode Island. As members of the DBS team, we are fully engaged in all aspects of the VCS and COLUMBIA (CLB) programs. We provide the up-front view of issues and devote our resources to ensure the success of NNS by transferring learning and excellence through our deliverables. Current support functions include Systemic problem resolutions and engineering issues, Technology insertion efforts, Design Review for NNS Manufacturing, Drawing review, Engineering Report management, Resolution of programmatic issues, Nuclear Construction Engineering support, Risk Management, Lessons learned for all follow ships, Certification support, Virginia Payload Module Design Build Sustain, Digital (Teamcenter) Design Review, and Ship Checks at Electric Boat’s locations. This position coordinates efforts for design disclosures, engineering evaluations, engine room, quality issues, module deliveries, and program initiatives, etc.

Develops, modifies, applies, and maintains quality evaluation and control systems and protocols for processing materials into partially finished or finished materials product. Collaborates with engineering and manufacturing functions to ensure quality standards are in place. Devises and implements methods and procedures for inspecting, testing, and evaluating the precision and accuracy of products and production equipment. Designs and analyzes inspection and testing processes and mechanisms, and performs statistical analysis to assess the cost of and determine the responsibility for, products or materials that do not meet required standards and specifications. Ensures that corrective measures meet acceptable reliability standards and that documentation is compliant with requirements in the areas of design, engineering, test, product evaluation and reliability, inventory control and/or research and development as they apply to product or process quality.

Conducts technical analysis of product implementations, modifications, and enhancements to product in accordance with specific customer specifications and implementations. Troubleshoots technical problems and issues, determines technical solutions in accordance with product and customer specifications, and recommends actions to company or customer representatives for coordinative product solution. Assesses product needs in accordance with customer specifications. Acts as local Newport News Shipbuilding on-site representative to Electric Boat.

This position requires the understanding of the entire VCS VPM DBS process as well as facilities and personnel resources. Will regularly interface with NNS home departments, Electric Boat, and Government counterparts. This benchmark is intended to be used by companies that have generic classifications engaged in research and/or product development encompassing primarily one or more of the following engineering disciplines: electronics, electrical, mechanical, and/or chemical.

Experience in Quality escape resolution processes established in the Virginia Class Submarine program and experience conducting ship checks.

Capable of climbing ladders and tolerating confined spaces and extreme temperature variances in the industrial or shipboard environment.
