Engineer – Great Plains Region (Kansas)
Ducks Unlimited, Inc. (DU), the world’s leading wetland and waterfowl conservation organization, has an opening for a full-time experienced Civil Engineer. This will be a remote position located in Central or Eastern Kansas reporting to the KS Regional Engineer and the DU Grand Island field office. The successful applicant will join a highly motivated conservation team of biologists and engineers who are responsible for the planning, design, and construction of wetland restoration and enhancement projects with primary responsibilities in Kansas.
Responsibilities:
Engineers perform a full range of project planning, surveying, design, drafting, contracting, and construction management on wetland, riparian, and associated habitat restoration projects. Project delivery responsibilities include scoping and proposal development, surveying, drafting, engineering design, project bidding, field inspection, and construction management. A close working relationship with local, state, and federal personnel, private landowners, and other conservation partners will be an important aspect of the job. The position will include travel and operating outside of normal business hours independently.
Specific duties include:
- Prepare proposal scope of work and budgets in close coordination with biological staff.
- Interpret, select, adapt, and apply engineering, surveying, and construction management principles and practices across a range of engineering services within a diverse conservation program.
- Complete engineering designs and reports as required.
- Prepare project plans, technical specifications, and cost estimates and attend project meetings.
- Conduct field inspections and perform construction management oversight.
- Ensure that consultants and contractors adhere to project plans, specifications, and schedules.
- Act as contracting officer, ensure contract compliance, and manage project budgets.
- Field work as required which could include strenuous outdoor activity in difficult environmental conditions. Working in remote areas independently. Must be able to operate an ATV when necessary.
- Willingness to work outside of normal business hours, work independently, and travel overnight with some extended travel. Working on weekends is not a common occurrence.
Qualifications:
Experience and Education: Candidates must have at minimum, a B.S in Civil Engineering or an equivalent degree from an EAC/ABET accredited engineering program. Applicant must be a registered EIT or PE and be willing to obtain registration in assigned states
Communication Skills: Demonstrated oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills are essential.
Technological Proficiency: Desirable qualifications include experience with AutoCAD Civil3D; hydrology; hydraulics; civil design including embankments, pipes, and erosion control; project management; and construction administration and inspection
Interpersonal Skills: Candidates must be self-motivated, goal oriented and able to work with and solve problems in close team-based relationships.

Pay: $56,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
