Responsibilities
Provides multicultural academic counseling across disciplines and colleges/schools to non-traditional populations (e.g., low-income, first-generation college, and under-represented populations). Counseling will include a holistic model for navigating academic, personal, financial, and career counseling. Analyzes and assesses students' problems and needs to take appropriate action plans, case management, and referrals for support. Conducts follow-up and outreach activities for EOP-eligible students. Including assisting with event and program planning for increases in student awareness, access, group counseling, and retention. Helps and empowers students to develop strategies to solve academic and personal problems. Provides support for financial aid questions and academic interventions. Monitors students' academic progress. Assists students in developing problem-solving and self-management skills. Advocates on behalf of student concerns, and facilitates small group discussion sessions. Trains and supervises student staff, interns, and paraprofessionals. Keeps abreast of student trends in higher education, particularly first-gen, low-income, and historically underrepresented students. Responsible for maintaining up-to-date and timely documentation of all student meetings and programmatic contact. Other programmatic admin, projects, and duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Knowledge of the theories and practices of counseling, learning, and human and career development. Knowledge of personal growth and development areas, including critical thinking, effective communication, self-appraisal, self-esteem, clarification of values, appropriate career choices, and leadership. Knowledge of the methodologies used to enhance student achievement. Knowledge of trends and issues facing low-income and first-generation college, underrepresented, and systemically impacted students in higher education. Knowledge and experience in analyzing problems and identifying solutions for problem-solving; skills and experience in developing and administering programs. Knowledge of and/or ability to learn University, college, and major requirements, policies, and procedures, including policies on handling student records and confidential documents. Knowledge of and/or ability to learn federal, state, and local requirements to provide for access, health, confidentiality, and safety; legal and ethical issues governing the delivery of counseling services.

Education/Training:
Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience/training.
Preferred Qualifications

Familiarity with research methodologies and research designs.

Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.

The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $27.30 - $32.09.
This is a 36-month, 100% full-time (40 hours per week), contract position that is eligible for full UC benefits with the possibility of extension. This position is non-exempt and bi-weekly.
