The Oregon Health Authority (OHA), Public Health Division (PHD), Office of the State Public Health Director (OSPHD) Equity Office
in Portland, Oregon is recruiting for two Equity Unit Support Specialist (Administrative Specialist 2).
In addition to providing administrative support to a team or teams within the Equity Office, the positions will also support community-specific workgroups and convenings for members of one or more of the following communities:
  • American Indian, Alaskan Native, and Urban Native
  • Asian
  • Pacific Islander/Native Hawaiian
These positions are eligible for full-time remote work for those whose who are able to occasionally report on-site as needed. The on-site work location is at the Portland State Office Building, 800 NE Oregon St., Portland, OR 97232.

These positions are full-time, limited duration, classified and represented by a union. Current Oregon Health Authority employees may have the option as a job rotation. Limited duration positions are benefits eligible. The duration is anticipated to last through June 30, 2023, but could end early or be extended based on funding and business needs.
What will you do?
As the Equity Unit Support Specialist, you will contribute significantly to supporting community engagement, outreach, projects, and events across the state by assisting staff, community-based partners, local public health authorities (LPHAs), and long-term care facilities in coordinating support for community-specific convenings and equity unit activities. This work requires regular communication with internal OHA teams, community stakeholders, and other state partners. In addition, you will assist with troubleshooting logistical needs, feedback, updating processes as needed, and acting as a point of contact for partners when there are questions about community convenings.
You will be responsible for interpreting laws, rules, policies, and procedures for the State Public Health Director’s Office. You’ll also assist managers with Equity Office tasks, special assignments, and performs administrative research, analysis, evaluation, and interpretation for projects or studies related to Equity Unit Community-Specific community committees and equity operations efforts.
The Equity Unit Support Specialist will provide direct administrative support to equity office teams, community-specific workgroups, and external-facing OHA meetings that impact the lives of people in Oregon experiencing health inequities, including communities of color, people with disabilities, and other historically marginalized communities. The selected candidate must:
  • Possess skills in cultural competency,
  • Be committed to the ongoing development of unconscious bias, health equity, anti-racism, diversity, and inclusion, and
  • Have lived experience as a member of, or demonstrated experience providing support to, one or more of the community groups identified above in this posting.

What are we looking for?
Minimum Requirements: Two (2) years of experience as an administrative specialist or executive support specialist which included administrative support for a project, program, or operation. Administrative support includes those duties beyond clerical/secretarial such as interpretation of laws, rules, and regulations; administrative data collection and analysis; and evaluation of projects, processes, and operations.

An equivalent combination of training and experience. One year of postsecondary education may be substituted for up to one year of the experience.

Working Conditions:
  • Acceptable working conditions support a remote and/or hybrid schedule for in-office and remote work. The work of this role may be conducted remotely with full access to the needed operating systems and technology. There are times that the work will need to be conducted onsite. Work location can be changed at any time at the discretion of the hiring manager.
