SALARY: $30 per hour
Total Contract:
- Year 1: $9,000
- Year 2: $18,450
ABOUT THE PROJECT:
The City of Medford Office of Prevention and Outreach is looking to hire a part-time English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) City Wide Coordinator. The part-time coordinator will work collaboratively with the Medford Family Network and the Medford Public Library to increase access to ESOL classes and to build community connections to the City of Medford. This position will support the Medford Connects network to increase outreach and skill development. This position will be a critical part of the city’s Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness (MVP) project to address community needs and support the development of an interconnected resiliency network in the City of Medford.
While this is an effort to make the city more resilient to climate change, Medford understands that it is important to address the needs of the community before, during, and after an emergency event. The City is looking for community members that can work individually and as a team to communicate between the city and residents. Additionally, Medford Connectors will support Medford Connects sites and the city to be more effective and culturally competent in its communications.
SUPERVISION: Reports to the Manager of the Office of Prevention and Outreach (OPO) with collaborative supervision with the Director of the Medford Family Network
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Engage with the ESOL community, including parents and caregivers;
- Organize and facilitate small community listening sessions with the ESOL community to identify and assess community needs for ESOL resources and services;
- Design materials for community outreach on available ESOL activities and classes in the Medford area, particularly programming offered by the Medford Family Network (MFN) and the Medford Public Library (MPL);
- Update existing ESOL Resource Guide and organize translation into multiple languages;
- Locate potential sites in the Medford area for ESOL activities and classes;
- Implement and oversee ESOL programming and support its instructors;
- Register families in ESOL activities and classes and provide customer support as necessary;
- Collaborate and partner with other ESOL agencies, such as English At Large and The Welcome Project
Please Note: This position is responsible for their own transportation and transportation costs. This position may require evening work and/or work on weekends depending on community engagement needs.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- Demonstrated experience working with ESOL communities.
- Previous experience teaching ESOL is a plus.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Self-driven, proactive with the ability to work effectively and independently;
- Responsible, organized, with excellent attention to detail;
- Excellent communication skills;
- Professional working proficiency (written and verbal) in English;
- Bi- or multi-lingual candidates are encouraged to apply;
